There is much more to special teams play than racking up tackles. Are you disciplined? Are you in the right position? Bush is all those things.

Jarrett Bush is disciplined? He has more penalties on special teams than any other Packers special teamer in over 20 years.

It's all about being assignment sound and not over-pursuing. Al Harris is a disciplined player. Why? Because he doesn't over pursue very often. He's assignment sound. He makes a lot of penalties though, but that comes with his style. It's a quality often overlooked. Same with Bush on special teams. Penalties are a Packer problem and not a Bush problem. The Packers are taught to be aggressive, which results in more penalties. There is a lot wrong with the specials of the Packers, but Jarrett Bush is not one of the the problems.

You have to weigh the pros and cons. Is his specials teams play enough to justify keeping him on the roster despite his lack of quality play at corner? I don't think that answer is as concrete as some Packer fans hope it is.

According to Profootballfocus, Jarrett Bush was the second worst special teamer in the entire league last year.

I would rather the Packers be aggressive and flagged from time to time, than the powder puff team's we had with Sherman that once faced with an aggressive team, cowered like babies. Example, when Moss did his fake moon, I strongly feel someone should have knocked him on his ass. Take the 15 yard penalty, because it shows precedent, you don't do that in OUR house. Sherman's team's were too soft in my opinion. We had no nasty.

If you think special teams is all about racking up tackles and not committing penalties (granted that would be nice), then Bush isn't going to be your favorite player. Their methodology seems to put a lot into penalties, which means they rather have Kyle Williams over Jay Ratliff. If that's something you describe too, then that's a good source material for identifying the quality of a player.

However, 32 out of 32 teams would rather have a guy who is in the right position. It's worth noting, I'm talking about the coverage unit here and not the return game. Being in the right position is the biggest factor when identifying a player on the coverage unit. That's the first thing you're taught when playing special teams. At any level. Know your role. Bush does that and it comes across on film. That's why if he's cut, he could get a look from another team.

Biggest obstacle in his way is Will Blackmon. He's a swing S/CB that also is important to special teams. If he's healthy, I think Bush is gone. If not, he's got a chance of staying. That's merely what I'm saying.

+1 to Porky for about as good a defense of Bush as I have read anywhere.

I still don't want his ass to ever hit the field for us again, but the defense of him by Porky was excellent- especially considering the "material" he had to work with.

Bush could definitely use the allies.

Sorry I cannot be one of them, I prefer wins.

Porky would make an excellent defense attorney. I'm still not buying it though. I know better.

I don't like Bush backpedaling either, so I'm not gonna defend him. I know he's not as awful as some make it out to be. I think we need to find a better talent to replace him.

I'd like to keep Lee for the upcoming season until the new guy develops...but the rest of them should have been gone last season. It isn't like he's ultra-expensive or that we need the cap space. His days in GB probably are numbered...but I expect him to be on the roster in 2010. If there's no drop off in Driver (and no reason to believe there will be) and he remains a starter, are Jones and Nelson a sure thing to make the roster?

Haven't heard anything about Sam Shields. Still hope he shows big in camp and becomes a good STer, then develops into a position also. Sure would be nice to have that speed on the team.
Why is Jerry Kramer not in the Hall of Fame?
