First, I don't know that his accomplishments on the field are worth of the Packer HOF.. beyond that..

Do you take any issue with him being included?

Mark Chmura proves himself worthy of Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame

Its been nearly a decade since Mark Chmura was acquitted of third-degree sexual assault charges in suburban Milwaukee.

Although Chmura was legally cleared, the reputation of the Green Bay Packers Pro Bowl tight end took a major hit in subsequent years.

Any discussion of prom parties and hot tubs ultimately led to bad or tasteless jokes involving Chmura. His name has been dragged through the mud countless times, and some view him with disdain or disgust.

But the time to move on is long overdue. Chmuras induction into the Packers Hall of Fame on Saturday night at the Lambeau Field Atrium should help in the healing process and serve to formally welcome him back into the Packers family where he belongs.

This is not meant to excuse Chmuras behavior a decade ago. Chmura himself has admitted he was guilty of bad judgment and immature actions. He has apologized, but more importantly, has spent the last 10 years serving as a productive member of society and solid citizen.

For those who dont believe Chmura is worthy of Hall of Fame induction based on character issues, the time has come to let go.

It would be different had Chmura been convicted of a crime, but a jury found him not guilty. The fact he has nevertheless paid a heavy price in the form of public scorn should give those who stand in judgment their pound of flesh.

To his credit, Chmura has never played the victim card and suggested people feel sorry for him.

Instead, in the midst of public ridicule, he picked himself up, gritted his teeth and moved forward. He became a better husband and father and has contributed to his workplace and community.

What more can we possibly ask of him?

Denny Tattum, Packers Hall of Fame vice president of sales and marketing, said a players off-field activities, both good and bad, are taken into account during the selection process.

Chmura, No. 1, was acquitted, said Tattum. Chmura, No. 2, has really been in a lot of ways a staunch supporter of the community he lives in. Professionally hes upheld his part of the program as far as his commitment to the community, his job and his family.

Some choose to dwell on past mistakes and wallow in what-ifs. But one measure of success is how a person responds to adversity and failure. Chmura has passed that test with flying colors.

It would have been easy for Chmura to flee the state, yet he chose to stay among us to begin the painful process of rebuilding his reputation.

Had Chmura continued a pattern of questionable behavior, the critics would have reason to doubt him. But over the past decade Chmura has changed the course of his life by doing the right things.

He was honored not only for his past on-field accomplishments, but also his ability to move on from the past and learn from it.

There are some things we as a society do not overlook, and hot tubbing with an underaged babysitter would fall into those categories. I've done a lot of stupid shit in my life, so it's not my place to pass judgement on Chmura, but if that were my daughter, he would have had a lot more to deal with than the Waukesha District Attornery. My vote would be no to letting Chmura into the Packer Hall of Fame.

Man of the Year, no.
Packers Hall of Fame, yes.

I don't know all that went down so it's hard for me to discredit his years on the field for it.

Based on his on field performance only?

So Lee and Franks are Pro Bowlers as well in Green Bay history? Comparable numbers...

Fact is.. Chmura was over-rated greatly in Green Bay..

What his presence did for the rest of the offense. He was a good blocker and a force to be considered over the middle that opened up routes for Brooks, Freeman, etc ...

And I believe Franks was a Pro Bowler, two or three times.

* Note the stars.. Pro Bowl years...

Franks and Lee are solid blockers.. both added a presence to the middle of the field.. albeit both had their share of the drops.

I would argue that Jackson had more of an impact on the Packers offense than Chewy.. except inside the 20.

Thanks Pack. Bubba Franks put up better numbers. Overrated Chmura is. His claim to fame (besides the babysitter incident) is he was on the SB team. Right place at the right time.

Franks was exactly what Brett Favre loved more than anything - an elite red zone target. Franks got TDs and lots of them. How many times have we seen Bubba Franks chip a defender then slip into the end zone, turn around, and catch a TD? Franks was also a pretty good blocker.

Personality problems for Chmura aside, Franks better go in before Chmura does.

Lee solid blocker? Donald Lee? #86? Or are you thinking the toolbox, Ed West? Lee a solid blocker????? Solid?

Franks grew into a solid blocker and was slow down the field, but had sure hands in his earlier years.

Chmura, I felt was a good blocker and had good hands which helped the Packers offense. I'm not sure how he's over rated, I haven't heard anyone say he was great. I think he was above average talent, but was the right piece at the right time for the Packers offense.

Itll be the oldest thing hes entered in a long time! OK Im done, I promise. honestly...I am surprised they went there. He was really good for a few years and was a 3 time pro bowler but I just dont think it was enough. Then you take into account how his career ended and this just doesnt make sense to me. Hes going to be like the crappy homemade Christmas present that you got from your crazy Aunt among all those other greats! He is a poor choice for the hall.

I'd have to agree with tonyagnese. Good tight end and what the Pack needed at the time but don't really see him qualifying for the Packers HOF.

dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.

dfosterf (15-Apr) : My wife just told the ancient Japanese sushi dude not enough rice under his fish
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I think a dozen is what I need
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
