He could push Colledge to start. Right now he's a G. With a year under his belt, he could try his hand at LT.

I'm not sure why all the hype on him... I mean the only thing he has done is drop down on the depth chart to both Barbre and UDFA McDonald.



One of the beat writers showed some OTAs videos, (for some reason he was only going to leave them up for a week) And to me Giacomini looked very good in his stance but I wondered if he could still move in it. Barbre looked too high but Mike McCarthy has talked about Barbre looking pretty good at LG.

McDonald also looked too high but not as high as Barbre. Sitton looked the best he got very low and stayed low while still moving... Newhouse couldn't lock out his arms at all, because he keeps his elbows out, the guy with the pad kept getting into his bubble with isn't good but he wasn't too high in his stance.

Much like beast, I am not sure where all this Newhouse hype comes from. Dudeis a rookie, and frankly as Beast already said if you watch him in practice then it's evident he has a long way to go to even be in play for a roster spot.


Right now, our starting 5 o-linemen are Clifton / Colledge (Spitz is injured) / Wells / Sitton / Taush. We can add Spitz to that list, as he has proven to be at least servicable. You can add Bulaga the 1st rounder, and TJ Lang by virtue of the promise he showed in his snaps as a rookie. That's 8 O-linemen. Assuming we keep 10, then Newhouse will have to battle it out against Giacomini, Evan Dietrich-Smith, and Nick McDonald (yes, I have left out Barbre on purpose; dude shouldn't be on the team right now based on last year IMO).

Giacomini and Dietrich-Smith have the benefit of experience over Newhouse, and as Beast also stated above McDonald has looked more fundamentally sound than Newhouse in the videos on JSOnline.


It looks like right now, he's got an uphill battle to win a roster spot. A lot can go down in Training Camp (especially injury-wise), but expecting more than that Newhouse to round out the O-line depth chart while he develops is expecting too much, I think.
