Well.....the update. Saturday my wife ran into a man who used to live across that lot from us. He HATES our landlady too. He and his son's friend came over with a trailer and moved all our big stuff for us. Then yesterday we had a man steam clean the carpets and we cleaned the entire place. We of course want (NEED) our security deposit back. The place was cleaner then when we moved in. Dropped off the keys today. The landBIT....lady.....was not there, but her mother was. I asked for the se3curity deposit......she said "I have nothing to do with that". She has been collecting the rent for almost 3 years, NOW she has "nothing to do with it"??? So i was a little more then miffed......my wife was fuming.....the old lady says "You're stressing me out!!!" I LOST it. I said "YOU are stressed out!!?!? Did YOU get a notice with NO warning that you had to move? Did YOU have open heart surgery and have to move a houshold in 2 weeks? YOU'RE STRESSED!?!?"

My poor wife thought i was gonna deck the old hag. (No, i never would do that!!!) Anyone that knows me knows it takes ALOT to make me lose it. It hasn't happened many times in my life. I just can't believe how cold hearted and selfish some people are. Just a month ago the old lady was telling my wife "Hurry up and pay the rent. We need spending money on our cruise".
These people are LOADED. So what's $515 to them? Pocket change. Yet they will make us wait. Legally they have 21 days to send it to us.
We already called a lawyer and told him the situation. He told us, "If it goes 21 days and one minute, CALL ME and we will go after them!" And we had him for a situation before, so he KNOWS what kind of people we are.
I kind of hope they DO try to screw us over. I'd LOVE to go after them for how they treated us.
I also video recorded the place when we finished cleaning, just in case it has to go to court. Plus we have a couple witnesses.
It's a shame that you HAVE to do those kinds of things to protect yourself against those that want to take advantage of you.
My chest (where i was cut open) is SO sore from lifting carrying boxes. And my back.....the arthritus is so bad now i want to scream. But at least the moving part is done.

Oh....and my wife is checking into Time Warner to see about cable and internet hookup. We don't even have a McDonald's with WiFi by us. The only McD's is a gas station one, which doesn't have it. So she's gonna try to get me home hookup so i can come here every day again. I MISS you guys (and gals) alot!

Hey Alan, I'm not sure what the laws are in Wisconsin, but they shouldn't differ from Massachusetts. Here, if a landlord/landlady wants to hold back any money from your security deposit, they have to give an itemized list of costs to clean/repair WITH receipts and/or estimates from businesses that will be performing the work. They can't just make up a bullshit list of "$100 carpet cleaning, $50 screen replacement" etc..
Don't let this bitch screw you.

Cheesey, man, it really sounds like what my wife and I went through last fall. We took pictures of everything before we moved out. In fact, our landlady told us before we moved out that she knew the place was spotless. When we sent our 30 notice to leave, we sent it so they'd have to sign for it, and they refused to sign for it for 5 days in a row and the letter came back to us. Then when the deposit check came she listed off all this junk that she had to "clean". My wife called and told them we had pictures, and then they stopped taking our calls.

But then we looked at the itemized list again, and she added everything wrong. She gave us more back than she had intended. We contemplated talking to a lawyer, but after the stress we went through we just wanted to be done with their craziness and have them out of our lives for good. To us it was worth the $100+ to be rid of them forever. I know just walking away was basically letting them get away with it, but after months of panic attacks and stress caused by those assholes, I was willing to let that money go just so we could move on. I've never felt so degraded and mistreated by someone in my life as I did renting from those fuckers. Sorry for the language, but that's what they are. Some people like to say "serenity now" in stressful situations. Now, my wife and I say "Fuck the Kanes". There's that language again. Sorry.

I'm really sorry you've had to go through all that, Cheesey. It has to be such a burden given the health situations and everything that goes along with it. We've kept you in our prayers and hope this new place works out for you and your wife. I've yet to meet you in person, but the Cheesey I know from these forums deserves better than to be treated that way. It's so unnecessary, and it's hard for me to understand why some people feel the need to act that way.
