I have a gut feeling that the Packers are going to sign a major player in the next two weeks.

Does anyone else here feel it. Feel the heat? Feel the suspicion?

Merriman? Serious as a heart attack. I think Ted is going to pull something off. This team is so close. So very close. I truly believe there will be a major move. Perhaps not Merriman but some surprising (Un TED Like Manover.)

It is waking me up in the middle of the night.

I just feel it.

I would like to see a big move. I think it would make a statement that we are making a push to go to the superbowl. The only news I have seen on the radar are that the packers are looking at Westbrook :

I would prefer Merriman over Westbrook.

gbguy20 - Man, I had no idea that article was that dated- I guess I saw the Broncos and the Redskins interest in Westbrook today and thought this article was recent since he is still looking for a home.

Screw Merriman - never liked him. Didn't even want us to draft him. And he's sucked ever since he got off the juice. 38 tackles and 4 sacks in two years (15 games)? And the stupid "lights out" dance is even worse than Barnett's samurai dance.

Bring on Jared Gaither.

Left to right: Gaither, Spitz, Wells, Sitton, Bulaga. With Clifton, Tauscher, Lang and the best of the rest backing them up? Are you kidding me?

No. I don't get that feeling.

I do get the feeling though that this team we got right now as of 5/13/2010 is good enough to win it all. Give Aaron time, generate pressure on the opposing QB, and DB depth.

Those were our 3 weaknesses from last year. I think they've been addressed. This team is for real. We'll win 12+ games and at least one Playoff game. I can feel that.

Packers on cusp of greatness?

This article somewhat pertains to this issue...it quotes LeRoy a lot and becomes a bit of a Ted Thompson bashing article referencing his unwillingness to sign a single FA this year (other than cliffy and Taush).

I agree with Zombie, though, that I don't really get that feeling inspite of what Ted said after the draft (he's working to upgrade OLB). I really can't see him pulling a 'blockbuster' it's never been his style, so why would he change now?

I have to go along with Zombie on this one, other than losing Kampy and having 2 or 3 guys that have not signed their tendors(C'mon Tramon), the 2010 team is going to look a lot like the 2009 team, except for the guys drafted and IMHO Ted drafted for the future.

There will always be that surprise guy or two(if a team is lucky)who will break into the starting lineup, but I don't think that is the case this year, what The Packers of 2010 are going to have over 2009 is good depth at most positions.

I do have a question for you RP, I saw clips of the upcoming special about "The Raider Nation", I just can't imagine you dressing up in The Black and Silver and flashing gang signs on gameday!!! lol
But you were younger back then, did you partake in all the fun?

There are still some dark horse guys out there.

I don't see us signing Westbrook, anymore. And I don't really mind. It's an overrated rookie vs a man who gets concussions on every 3rd hit. Neither will make a huge difference.

I'd love to get Merriman, but I don't know if Ted feels the same way. His actions seem to be pointing towards our staff thinking that the DE play was more of a problem than the OLB play in the pressure department. Hence the Neal pick.

A guy who is very much flying under the radar and who sounds like someone who Thompson would sign is Adalius Thomas.

I wanted us to look at Porter, who has a lot more left than Thomas, but the Cardinals threw an idiotic amount of money at him. Thomas has never been as elite a pass rusher as Porter, but he used to get the job done in Baltimore. There are enough people who blame his bad play on NE's scheme, rather than him declining.

ya me either zombie ie I dont think well grab a high profile guy off FA ... and I agree with you on what we need to win the big game.

Only part of that formula is our pressure and DB depth ... Im hoping harris comes back strong and that we have another guy step up ie underwood/lee or whom the bleep ever.

I think we got our safety position covered ie got way too many safety guys on our roster atm ...

Id love it if our D was even better then last year - would be amazing.

Our biggest weakness was on the Oline last year. Specifically, LT. We've now got three guys who can play there. Besides Clifton.
The second weakness was DB. We got Burnett, Underwood, Lee and Bell will develop and we got Peprah back. Not sure all of Underwood, Lee and Bell will develop, but at least one of them will step up significantly. Plus, Harris should be back.
The third weakness was OLB. We've got Brad Jones with a year under his belt instead of a miscast Kampman. That's a big improvement. I'd still like to see some depth here, though. We've got Obiozor and then maybe move Bishop outside. I don't know why they don't do that.
We've also got a FAST HB who can catch the ball and a rookie version of Finley. Our offense is gonna be CRAZY good in two years. Probably this year too.

nice post nerdmann

we appear to have quite a different team this year then what we started with last year IMO.

Last year we were just starting the 34 and wondering how we would do and raved about our secondary.

Although our O seems pretty much the same; we saw the emergence of finley and our blantant oline weakness and rodgers holding the ball too long came into focus quite early.

They say a 34 D only gets better and the first 1-3 years is the learning years ... Im glad we got veterans for the 34 on our team now (well at least 1 year under their belt).

Heck we saw barnett do quite well even after the ACL repair.

perhaps our RB position got upgraded and even our ST ... our ST has been abysmal for the past 2 years. Id love to see us get a great return guy and have better ST covereage.

btw I can see us taking the NFC north this year given our team and the fact the viks have a harder schedule. And Id almost predict the lions to beat out the bears this year ... love their changes

I agree with you to a point...one thing LeRoy and the link overlook is the depth, thus potential for current roster players to step up like Finley did last year...James Jones, Jordy , Raji, Blackman, Q Johnson, Blackmon, etc. are all examples of guys who could step up beyond what they have in the past.

With that said, even with key leaders like Butler and Reggie, look at the impact that more vets had even at positions already loaded with vet leadership...look at the recent talk of how the loss of vets tore apart the Pats this fall. There's a happy medium that is often only realized in hindsight...but I will say I'm slightly discouraged that we literally haven't signed even 1 FA
