I'm not a fan of Donald Lee's. So, maybe he can beat him out for the #2 spot. Which is pretty important on this team.

This is what I wrote about him when ranking the top ten at each position

Quarless displays good athleticism and is a natural pass catcher, but isn't very polished in his route running. Excellent frame and has the prototypical tight end look. Also has the ability to go up and get the ball in traffic. Character concerns and production are red flags that will drop him in the draft.

He was my No. 10 TE. Thought he'd go in fourth or fifth round. It's a luxury pick, but Donald Lee dropped a ton of passes last year. They need someone to push him.

I can see Q taking either Lee or Havner's position on the team. Havner made it based on versatility, TE,LB and Special Teams so Q will have to stand out at more than just the TE position.

Since this was the 5th round, I can only assume that Team Ted thought he was the BPA.

I'de like to see him take over for Lee, toooo many drops last season. I also like Havner in the role he plays now, dude does nothing but score touchdowns.

Thompson and Co. haven't seemed to have to much of a problem paying a premium for depth on the roster if Wells and Poppinga coming out of camp last year and our expensive group of MLBs this year is any indication. Lee would admittedly be an expensive backup whose numbers have declined but he knows the current offensive system well, can block decently, and can still make catches when called upon. It sure didn't help his numbers the amount of times Finley was targeted last year.

When I look at the team's performance last year and who is on the current roster, that's how I base my opinion on who I'd like the team to draft. Quarless could very well come in and provide a nice new weapon playing in two TE sets with Finley.

That being said, I just personally felt there were other areas this team could have concentrated on in the draft adding some depth, mainly LOLB, CB, and ST that were a higher priority than adding a backup TE considering the trio we currently have on the roster. I would have said the same thing had we taken Dez Bryant at 23 with Bulaga still on the board at that point considering our current WR corps. But I'll be the first to admit the only information I have on these guys is what everyone else reads on the internet and I do hope this guy comes in ready to prove to be a worthwhile member of this team.

He seems like a kid who's really gotten his shit together. It rare for Ted Thompson to take players with character concerns. But it seems like Quarless has matured and will understand his role.

The book on him says he doesn't block well... watch him through out this clip.. albeit generally locked up on corners or safeties.. I didn't he did a bad job... hands get a little wide..

The weed wasn't his and wasn't found in his room. It probably was one of his 2 or 3 roommates. They tested him the next day and he passed clean.

I won't try and justify the DUIs but he claims to have changed his life and given up drinking. Paterno himself said Quarless was a team leader last year, so hopefully he has changed.

I like this pick. With Havner injured and possibly suspended I could see him getting beaten out. Lee too is on the way out unless he got that hand transplant this offseason.
