makes little sense, possible linebacker convert?

We need a good blocker at TE. Havner may be a nice story, but honestly you can improve on him as your third TE.

WTF? I don't understand this one at all. On any level.

We needed to get better at TE, IMO.

Havner is, on his best day, a slightly below average blocker. There is a reason he got lesser snaps towards the end of the year.

We could stand to improve at the position. It may not be a need, but at this point in time taking a project makes total sense.

Seems like Quarless has some value as both a vertical threat and a blocker. Certainly a project, but Ted has been known to take projects in the fifth round in his career (Mike Hawkins, prime example).

LOL @ Jermichael Finley's reaction on Twitter.

"Tightend?!?!! :("

Rodgers replies to him:

Who knows maybe we will use TEs more in our passing game - considering how well finleys missmatches go ...

to be honest as long as we get a decent LOLB ie either jones gets better or we get someone that is 1/2 as good as matthews there ...

then I really dont care whom else we draft.

I wish the best for all our draft picks ...

I dont understand the pick right now. But maybe 6 months from now we all will. Is Havner receiving any punishment for his accident?

This is kind of a head scratcher in all honesty. Depth is always good, but TE wasn't really a major need with Havner and Lee being more than servicable. I don't know if this is an indictment of Havner and his off the field issues this Spring and/or Lee's decline in play, but meh, there will be competition in camp at TE.

He'll replace Lee, not Havner. Unless they IR Havner. 2TE formation, baby! Looks like a Finley Mini-me.

Same thing I thought of, they might just be covering there asses if Havner gets suspended. What seemed like a solid position would turn paper thin with only Finley and Lee left on the roster.

If I'm not mistaken, Donald Lee is making about $3 million per year for the next two years. Given Jermichael's emergence, that's quite a bit of money to pay a backup TE. If management feels that this year or next, Quarless can adequately handle the backup TE role, they can release Lee and save that money.

There's a myriad of different ways to analyze any given pick, but what it boils down to is that management feels this kid can be a good player. Especially in the fifth round and later, most of the picks won't be in the league within a year or two. There is zero sense in drafting based on position or need. Teams are simply taking players they feel can have a career. If it's not the ideal position, so be it.

More importantly, very few, if any people on this board know shit about any of these players, so if it doesn't "make sense" to you or comes off as a "head scratcher", that might possibly be why.

I should've been more clear; my bad. Personally, I felt Havner's play towards the end of the year slipped - he wasn't anything better than average on his best Sunday.

From that end, I think Quarless makes sense in that he brings competition to the position. He gives you a chance to get improved play from the third TE, who gets some burn as you mentioned.
