Please lay off on the "Packer people" bullshit. Was Charles Woodson "Packer people" when he came to town? No. Is Johnny Jolly "Packer people"? I don't think so. How about "Daryn Colledge"? He's a whiny bitch. Hell, even B.J. Raji has a questionable past. Ted Thompson does not place the premium on character so many Packers fans have deluded themselves into thinking. Think about it: He agonized over the choice between Raji and Crabtree last year -- is Crabtree "Packer people"?

Yes, we all like Nelson and Jones because we drafted them, but if we can get one of the best receivers in the league for cheap, there is absolutely no reason why we shouldn't pull the trigger. Certainly not on the basis of their putative "Packer peopleness" or lack thereof. Imagine how quickly Rodgers could get the ball out if he had Finley, Jennings, Marshall, and Driver (perhaps even Westbrook!) as available options. It would be virtually impossible that on any given play, all of them would be covered. If you have open receivers, you don't need the greatest line in the world, as Kurt Warner proved time and time again.

I say make the deal. Packer people be damned.

As for Jolly's issues occurring after he came to the Packers, what's your point? If Thompson were really so concerned about "Packer people" as people on this board like to think, wouldn't Thompson have fired him as soon as he became a PR liability, as some of the more skittish of GMs in this league do? The fact is he hasn't, despite the fact that Jolly's charges have been refiled and his case has dragged on for the better part of two years.

Again, what's your point on Daryn Colledge? The fact is he's not always a good little soldier who says "Thank you, sir, may I have another?" He's pretty vocal in the media. I never said nor implied he got into any trouble. But he's done as much as some of the other players that are strongly opposed on this board for talking too much.

Koren Robinson is a great example. I could have brought him up, but I was running out of time as I was late to class. Another example is Randy Moss, the trade for whom many people opposed because of his supposed character flaws, even though he's never been in trouble off the field. But Ted Thompson did attempt to trade for him.

There are probably other examples too. My only point is that Ted Thompson is not nearly as obsessed with pristine character as some of the people seem to think who have taken that phrase "Packer people" entirely too literally.
