Packers sign punter from Australia

By Greg A. Bedard

Green Bay - The Packers have signed a punter, former Australian Rules Football player Chris Bryan to a three-year contract, according to his agent/coach Nathan Chapman.

Chapman spent time with the Packers during training camp in 2004. He currently mentors Aussie player that want to make the transition to the National Football League.

Bryan joins Sav Rocca (free agent, Philadelphia Eagles) and Ben Graham (Arizona Cardinals) as former Australian rules footballers to be currently on an NFL roster.

The Twitter page of Steve Alessio, the general manager of player development at the AFL player's association, also announced the signing.

Packers sign Australian punter Chris Bryan, official says

by Tom Pelissero

The Green Bay Packers apparently have added an Australian rules football player to their wide-open punting competition.

According to this tweet by Steve Alessio, the Australian Football League Players Association's GM/player development, the Packers have signed Chris Bryan to a contract.

Bryan, 28, played parts of five seasons with two AFL teams before being de-listed by Collingwood last year. He reportedly tried out for NFL scouts on March 9 in Los Angeles.

Bryan told the Sunday Herald Sun he can "can consistently kick hang time of 4.5 seconds, which is about 50 yards. I've also got the bomb there. That's about a hang time of 5.4 seconds, but it's the consistency that's the key."

The Packers severed ties earlier this month with incumbent punter Jeremy Kapinos, who wasn't tendered as an exclusive-rights free agent. The only other punter on the roster is Tim Masthay, who went to camp with Indianapolis last summer and was out of football last year.

Consistency issues. Sounds great. Lol.

OK--

The guy can "kick hang time of 4.5 seconds" whatever the hell that means... (they talk kinda funny dere)

I just want to know WHAT he can kick "about 50 yards" (and how the hell does he know what 50 yards is, lol)

I mean--That damn goofy ball they play with looks like a friggin' dirigible to me.

Edit-- He's talkin' about off a friggin' juggs machine---screw it, what do I care...I hope he's great, plus Ted is awesome at getting punters, so I'm sure it will be good.

a hang time of 4.5 seconds equals a length of 50 yds. interresting!! i always thought hang time and respective length depend on the angle you kick the ball.

i hope this guy is a significant better punter than physicist.
