Last time I checked.. the goal is not to "only" have a great offense.. the goal was to win games and most notably the Super Bowl.

I don't need the stats to tell me the Packers offensive line is at very best average at times.. and at worst (see early 09) one of the poorer lines in the game. One could use the sacks stats from last year to support that but instead I will go with what I see.

And late in games, when we can't take the ball and ram it down someones throat to seal a game.. yes I have a problem with it.

We yearly we come out struggling in protection reads and execution.. yes I have an issue with it.

When we struggle yearly to run the ball consistently and in short yardage.. yes I have a problem with it.

Point is.. IMO, we have a Achilles heal on this football team.. and that is consistency on the oline.

And it shows up around the playoffs.. you have to be able to win in all facets of football.. because someplace along the line you are going to have to lean on one area or another.. not to mention protect your franchise in the QB position.

Dickey had no mobility. His legs were shot. So i don't remember if the O-line was that bad, or if it was partially his inability to move out of the pocket. I DO remember a snowy game where the D couldn't get to him, and he just picked them apart.
When he had time, Dickey was great.

Btw, who blew their assignment(s) on that blitz that ended our season?

Did Rodgers not pick up on it? I really don't remember looking.

Everyone was so busy fighting about the facemask/non-facemask that I never heard about it.

Being that no one laid a hand on him and everyone else was manned up on the right.. I would say it was a miss by Rodgers on the pre-snap adjustments... he came clean if I remember correctly.

That's what I thought. Five sacks in that game, btw. I only bring that up because everyone has already brought up the defensive failures.

Matt Bowen and LeRoy Butler thought it was on Rodgers.

Matt Bowen

The play that won the game for the Cardinals was your basic nickel man pressure. But I still think Rodgers could have recognized the pressure and gotten rid of the football. Arizona blitzed nickel back Mike Adams off the slot, with the strong safety dropping down into coverage to replace him. The Packers, who had four receivers aligned away from the formation, motioned the RB weak to create an empty set leaving five to block the Cards five rushers. For Rogers, you know pressure is coming when you see the safety walk down before the snap and with five receivers out; you have to unload the football. A tough way to end an impressive game for Rodgers, but still a mistake that gets you beat in the postseason.

Five questions with LeRoy

Q: How, in your view, did the final play break down? What did you see and what would have been a better outcome?

A: Aaron Rodgers has a three-step drop and Aaron has to get rid of the ball. After three steps, he sees the blitz with Adams, and he has to get rid of it, take a sack or throw it away. Line up and live another day.

He will learn from his mistake. It was his first shot at the playoffs.

It just amazes me that Ted Thompson, widely regarded amongst his peers based on comments I have read over the years, is still brutalized by fans. Is he perfect? Nope....which GM is??!?

Unlike so many of his peers who have appeased fans and their own ego by signng big name FAs in hope of the quick fix, and whose signings have often lead to horrible cap situations, Ted Thompson has this team poised to be HIGHLY competitive for years to come, and in good cap shape.

Were you by chance screaming for Haynesworth last year? Careful what you wish for......

He does need to address the LT and possibly LG this year in the draft, and hopefully sign Clifton and Tauscher for one more year. That said, we have Sitton (widely recognized as being on the cusp of becoming something special), Lang (who will probably be our RT of the future and who showed well for a youngster), Spitz (when healthy a very decent player) and Colledge (who has been very erratic, but some of it due to changes on either side of him). The core of a really good line is here with Wells included....just need to get that LT of the future in the draft....and possibly a LG later to compete.

Ahem? Thought I was?

Sorry getting to this topic late...

But I do hear you and know what your coming from..

The O-L is part of this team that really has suffered..All other parts Ted touched have performed good, or great..

I do agree the O-L HAS to be addressed and FIXED, either by adding new guys or changing coaches ( I do think Zero makes a valid point)

But to dismiss Ted because of it? not so sure I go that far..That is if he mixes it up and ATTEMPT to fix the issues

Without Barbre in there the line isn't as absolutely dreadful as some of you are making it seem. It's lucky that Rodgers didn't get hurt but I have no doubt that he learned a lot about being a QB this year that he couldn't have learned in any other situation. He will be better for it.
