When I saw him cry I made up my mind that I wanted to keep him...

I want him back and I want to see him rushing the QB from the line more. If we can have 2 people with double digit sacks, that changes everything.

The risky thing about tagging him is that we might end up actually keeping him a la Julius Peppers.

I don't see that as a big problem. If that's the worst thing that can happen, that just means the Packers pay something like $8.3 mil for a player who isn't worth that much money in an uncapped year. Not ideal, but not the end of the world either.

"djcubez" wrote:

They'd pay A LOT more than that (average out the 5 highest paid players at his position) but yea, I see what you're saying. The only thing about tagging him like that is he probably would be a bit peeved so we'd only keep him for that one year.

"get_louder_at_lambeau" wrote:

That's where I got that number. That was the franchise tag number for linebackers this year, unless you count the four grand that I rounded off as a lot more. I'm sure it will go up for 2010, but that's what it is now.

Here ya go, DJ, the new franchise number for a linebacker for this coming year is $8.373 mil , so I was off by $73,000. Does that change your opinion as far as franchising Kampy at all? I agree that it would be overpaying, but Ted did that with Corey Williams a couple years ago.

An elite QB can't do much when he's on his back. Remember that Tom Brady had just about the best season ever for a QB in '07 and they lost the SB by getting sacked too many times. The Giants' DBs weren't even that good either.

The franchise tag number is 9.68 million, not 8.37 million. The 8.37 million is for a transition tagged LB. I still don't see anyone concerned that Kampy and his agent will argue that he is a defensive end for tagging purposes. This has happened before when teams switch from a 4-3 to a 3-4 and the guy was playing DE.

You put a transition tag on him you might as well let him walk. He will be negotiating with every 4-3 team in need of a DE, and we would be owed no picks if he walks because we didn't want to match DE money.

You can just go look at that number and see how ugly it is, plus maybe consider he just might want to be a DE regardless, what with the pay differential and all...

You know, idiotic comments like these are getting to me now. Newsflash: against the Steelers and Cards in the playoffs, Kampman did not play because he was injured.

Put simply, you are confusing a possibility of something happening with the idea that it must have happened.

Kampman is not the first guy you want to cover someone - I get that.

Pray tell, though, when exactly have you seen Kampman drop into coverage and get beaten the past season? I'll make it easy for you: just give me one instance of this happening.

Fact is, people are mistakenly making a leap of logic by assuming if something could happen, then it did happen.

Kampman's first job in this defence is to attack from the LOS. Be it versus a run play or a pass play, he will primarily be responsible for crossing the LOS and attacking the RT (and whichever other play should be helping him the RT out).

Because Kampman dropped into coverage, people assume he must have given up a big play. Someone please point out the game this happens.

DF, I believe it was just last year that a new franchise tag was introduced for DE/OLB players in the 3-4. This is what happened with Terrell Suggs of the Ravens, last off-season I believe; it is the team that has say on the position of the player, as opposed to the player himself.

That is good, because --- you know damn well his agent would be trying to get to that friggin' 12 mil figure if he had a chance.

Thanks for the update and clarification.

So as it stands the money is just obscene, not ridiculously obscene, lol

The argument (the agent would use--and it was effective)

My bad on the numbers. I was thinking that was the Exclusive Franchise and Non-Exclusive Franchise Tag numbers. A Transition tag would be useless; they'd have to Franchise him.

beast (13h) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (13h) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22h) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22h) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season

beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.

Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
