lol Alan.. LOL

I'm kinda gut-wrenched right now.. When the game kicks off, hopefully I'll be able to breath again. We'll see.

Man I've been there many times. Weird how a sport can affect us.
The worse for me was when my son was playing in the conference championship game. I threw up before the game started.

Once the game starts I usually calm down.

Anyway.... Go Saints !

I changed my mind again.

I have decided not to gloat about it.

...Never had much to gloat about in the first place, what with you guys cleaning our clock twice and winning the division...

Quite classy of you to roll into the chat to "take your lumps" as it were...

I really did feel as much of the pain as I reckon is possible for a Packer fan to feel for my Viking fan friends. There is no doubt that the nature of that loss has to hurt.

So, my earlier post (pre-game) was largely my personal internet equivalent of "putting up, or shutting up", in the sense that I wanted to subject myself to whatever ridicule might head my way in the event that the Vikings did prevail. As I said in the original post, I'm not a big fan of waiting to gloat and then only doing so after the results are known.

Hell of a year, and that Barney guy was one hell of a competitor, as was the rest of those purple bastards. I know this will not be listened to, as it's not a very good time in purple-dom, but if I was a Viking fan, I'd be very optimistic about the future of my team.

So +1 for the visit last night, and hope you understand my motives for the pre-game smack-talk.

I was actually rooting for no one yesterday beyond the Jets.. call it I don't want to have to watch the giant forehead of a QB dismantle either of the defenses that would be going into the SB. Jets would have made for a better SB.

But I honestly cheered when Favre threw that pick, because after all the nonsense of the past two seasons, it came full circle to the exact same position... different franchise, different teammates and every thing yet his final pass was a pick.

I still maintain that the divorce was footed on piss poor communications between four dynamics (Front Office, GM, Head Coach and Brett/Buss/Family), split loyalties and pressures of failing again. Point is, I hold no anger towards Brett, as it wasn't solely his doing.

But in the end, he wanted to play for the Vikings, their coaches and thought he had the best shot at the SB and it ended the exact same way 07' did.

The game wasn't lost on just that play.. just as any other game.. the Vikings cost themselves many times over.

So other than the fact that the Vikings locked up Chilly for years to come, doubt in sinking into AP mind along with the fans starting to turn upon him, I got just a sliver of joy from watching one single play frame in karma soaking surroundings..

Sorry my purple friends.. but yes that was a dose of pure joy.. the single play. If it is any comfort, we can relate to the pain two years removed.

Formo and Vikes - Just to let you know, I was rooting for you guys to win it all. Not just because of the money I had on your team but Favre is still my favorite player and I've developed a soft spot for Mr. Migraines. I had one migraine in my life and I wanted to blow my brains out so I feel for that guy.

7 turnovers and a penalty at the worst possible time, yet you still were able to draw OT. Great effort. 'Tis a shame it fell 3 points short. 'Tis also a shame that you have an ass munch on your team who calls heads instead of tails. Chilly should have slapped him upside the head.

Plus I honestly think you guys would have had the better chance of beating the Colts and I hate the AFC.

I have no problem with your post, except for this last comment..

Honestly, that's an insult to us Viking backers. Trying to relate to the pain we've been through?! Impossible! So don't try.

4 Super Bowls.

5 NFC Championship games.

Countless playoff games.

Each and every one of them ended in getting our hopes up, only to have the rug being pulled out from underneath us.

Take the pain you guys felt 2 years ago, and multiply it by at least 9. Then you can relate.

It really isn't an insult when you think in these terms... which is what has always laid in my craw a bit.

We had a top 10 all time QB (by many different types of listings) for a decade and a half, had one of the best cumulative records in the 90's and we only won the super bowl once.

Is that really in the same class as your trials as a fan? Probably not.. but more so than not, you have always been short on consistency at QB year after year holding your franchise somewhat hostage.

A great year and there by the likes of Johnson, Culpepper, and Cunningham.. but they never we able to string a few years together to really have a open window at the big game. So you were somewhat limited to single shots at the big dance.

We on the other hand didn't have that excuse.. we had stability at QB, even though the position is over valued, we should have made the big dance more than two times in Brett's era.. and that is a bitter pill all of its own.

Sorry.. didn't mean to insult, but believe me when I say expectations verse production has fallen short over Brett's GB career.

Call it sour grapes.. probably.. but we had more than enough chances to get it done only to see it go up in INT flames.

I don't have to see any of them. I'm a 2nd generation-er.. I'm reminded all the time by my uncle and father about the years I missed.

To answer your questions, I have yet to see my team make it to the big dance. I've seen 3 NFC Championships. 2 of which ended in a heart breaking, salt in the wound OT. The other was the 41-0 blow out to the Giants (who didn't bother showing up to the Super Bowl.. they lost to the Ravens).

Hey, at least you had a QB. You can blame your front office for not putting the other pieces of the puzzle together. It's better than having most the pieces, but missing the crucial one (QB).

beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.

beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
