There are fans to feel sorry for however the game plays out. I'd rather feel sorry for Vikings fans than Saints fans today. :D

How about going for the back of his knees on the play where he had to be helped to the sideline afterwards?

How about Darren Sharper launching himself at his neck?

Sorry, I don't buy it. I don't give a shit what the Joe Bucks and the Troy Aikmans of the world say. It looked like the Saint strategy on defense went well beyond "hit him hard and hit him often." Well beyond "take his head out of the game." It looked to me like it was "take him out of the game."

And I don't give a rat's ass whether the hits were legal or not. My standard for play isn't what's legal. Alex Gibb's offensive blocking system is legal, and it's immoral as hell, based in techniques that are so dangerous you can't practice them.

A cheap shot isn't cheap because it's against the rules. A cheap shot is cheap because it's not justified by the morality of the contest.

What the Saints did wasn't hard football. It was bush league. It's in the same realm as Buddy Ryan "bounties" and Forrest Gregg "hit list" territory. As Warren Sapp's hit on Chad Clifton.

Yes, I wanted the Vikings to lose. Yes,I want Favre to retire and just go away. In my opinion, the only thing worse than the Vikings winning a Superbowl is the Cowboys losing a Superbowl. Yes, I'm glad the Vikings aren't in the Super Bowl.

But in my opinion the Saints defense played like a bunch of thugs. And if they were executing Gregg Williams' and Sean Payton's game plan, then they're thugs, too.

"Wade" wrote:

I think that was there plan too.

Bobby McCrey (I think) should be suspended for the Super Bowl in my view for his two cheap shots. His were dirty.

I don't think there is anything wrong with a gameplan that is all about hitting the QB. Sharper hit Favre as hard as he could, but that's football. Yes, it's dangerous, but football is a dangerous game. Ultimately, if the only way you can beat Favre is to hit him as hard as you can, teams will do it. Packer/Viking/Favre fans can take the moral high ground, but they'd want their team to do the exact same thing, especially if a birth to a Super Bowl is on the line.

In one regard, I don't like it, but on the other hand, I get it. Not the cheap shots though. Those were ridiculous.

I'm a die-hard Packers fan, but I haven't been as devastated by a loss since the Giants game. Brett has meant a great deal to both my teams (Southern Miss, Packers) and unashamedly admire the guy. I really wanted to see him pull this one off.

He played like a warrior for 59 minutes yesterday, then blew it in the last seconds. That blunder is all that everyone will remember, and I'm sure it will haunt him for the rest of his life.

Just a sick, deflated feeling today. Why do I allow myself to get so damn emotionally invested in this stuff? Especially when it's the friggin' Vikings involved?

No doubt about it we came out really kind of hoping to knock the [expletive] out of Brett, and I felt we did that, said Saints linebacker Scott Fujita(notes), who fell on the ball after a bobbled exchange between Favre and halfback Adrian Peterson at the New Orleans 10 with 56 seconds left in the first half to preserve a 14-14 tie. But that [expletive] is tough. He kept coming back at us. Hes incredible.

I am a bit astonished at how many of you are misty-eyed at the result of the game. For me, it's really just great to see the Vikings get so close to the SB only to collapse yet again. No sympathy here. Maybe my resolve has been hardened by living in Minneapolis and having to deal with so much shit from Vikings fans on a daily basis, but, Damn - It feels great to see the Vikings fail.

I'll be honest. I'm very surprised at the empathy I've seen here. But, if it were the Packers.. I would most certainly NOT be empathetic. Maybe it's because the 'torment' Viking fans have gone through, and how I've seen the Packers win one in my lifetime. I'm not sure.

I appreciate it, I guess.

I guess I'm more pissed off that I still have yet to see a Viking Super Bowl win. More than anything I want to be with my uncle and dad and see the Vikes win a SB. I want to see those 'happy' tears from those two. They lived the Vikings from day one. It was real purple blood. Now, my dad has been very indifferent on a few occasions, and my uncle is sooo hardened, he hates anyone in purple (well, until kickoff, then he lets his emotions go a bit). It's sad to see how some people put up defense mechanisms.

Also, to you guys that hate the 'classless', 'rude', 'obnoxious', etc Viking fans.. Hating on you guys is pretty much all we have. Especially when the Vikings sweep the Packers. It's our 'Super Bowl'. You better effing believe we aren't going to let you forget about those loses.

What I find funny is the Packer fans on Facebook ripping on Viking fans, calling them the adjectives I mentioned above, and what not.. Obnoxious?! Dude.. you're the one lighting up Facebook with comments that most definitely shine an unflattering light upon your character.

Yeah I hate that too. No need to rub it in. They feel lousy enough as it is. I'm happy to talk about how good it made me feel to see the Vikes lose when I am talking to my family and Packer fan buddies, but going out of your way to taunt a Vikings fan is not cool. I don't like it when someone does it to me, so I don't do it to others. simple as that.

I never understood shit-talking among fans of sports teams. It's great to be invested in a team financially or emotionally but to the point of actually hating or despising other people because of who they root for? It's worse than a parent arguing whose child is better. Fans literally have no control over what happens on the field, it kind of makes me sick.

Don't get me wrong, rivalries are enjoyable and rubbing it in a bit can be humorous if it's all in good fun and taste. But first and foremost I am a fan of the sport and respect anybody who plays it, unless they are a despicable person off the field . The Packers mean so much to me but when I hear stories of Bears fans poisoning a Steelers fan  it really makes me question how seriously some people take this game.

I'm a homer when it comes to most sports although I'm really only a fan of the Packers. I just happen to root for the Badgers, Bucks and Brewers because they're my local team and I love sports. Mainly I root for individual players or I just want to sit down and see a good game because in the end it's just another form of entertainment. That's why March Madness is always so appealing to me.

Bears fans don't poison Steelers fans because of their respective loyalties. They do this because they are hooligans who have decided to cause harm to others and then seize upon a perceived difference between them -- their choice of favorite team -- as a justification for their actions.
