Both Jones and Nelson are gifted WRs, and I like what they both do very much. But, when healthy, James Jones reminds me a LOT of Sterling Sharpe. Great hands, and so strong that the first defender is more often than not shedded for extra yards. That said, Nelson is also a very well rounded player. I see these two pushing each other for playing time, which means good things for both.

One of them may be traded, or possibly Ruvell Matrin, on draft day to a WR starved team that has someone/something we wantand/or need.

Yes, if we dump anyone, it's Martin. Now that we have Jordy, Martin's no longer needed. Jordy is another big WR who can move the chains and is very sure handed.

I agree on the TE front. Lee is talented and productive (when thrown to), and Finley just oozes potential, and his late season performance gave us all a glimpse into that which is on the horizon.

I'm psyched about Finley. I was psyched about Finley when we drafted him. He just has to grow up a little. Get a little maturity, a little perspective, and grow into his body. He's gonna be a stud. I konw it.

As for the article, I agree with all of it except Kampy. I strongly believe in something called "football intelligence." Kampy has it. He may be lost the first half of the season, but I guarantee he will "get" it.

He's got more speed than people give him credit for too. He's got "football speed," which Reggie White had. Yes, Reggie White. Big guy and all, I've seen him run down fast little guys and tackle them because he had the understanding of angles. That's another aspect of "football intelligence" that some folks have, some don't. Like Alex Smith may have a 150+ IQ, but I'd take Brett Favre's football intelligence any day of the week.

Another name he brought up - Donald Lee. There's been a lot of talk on this board that we could improve our TE spot but I disagree. I think he was wrongly utilized. He was correctly used in '07, but poorly used in '08. The guy has skills. He just needs to be used correctly.

And Aaron Rodgers is a stud. But we got to get that kid an OL. If Ted Thompson drafts a WR ahead of an OL, I'm going to be pissed.

I agree on Kampy - I'm sure all the geniuses who are worried he can't play the position have their reasons, but I've never seen the guy fail. And that's including last year when he was the only guy rushing the passer and everyone knew it. If Capers thinks he can do the job (and all appearances are that he does), that's all the convincing I need.

There's something called a Football Player, and Kampy's one of those. He'll do just fine.

The same geniuses who let him drop to the 5th round. Nothing flashy, just highly productive.

Kampman is a student of the game. We all know him as the guy with the motor that never quits, but when he talks about the game he talks about things like center of gravity, balance, technique, etc.. If anyone can make the switch from DE to 3-4 OLB on our team, I think it's him. I'm excited.

I like that term.

You know who else was a football player? Karl Mecklenberg of the Broncos in the 80s. That guy played like 7 positions and excelled at half of them and did the other half pretty efficiently.

I could see Kampy being the "football player" of today. Give him a job, he'll do it, and learn how to do it well.

Additionally, we've got a coaching staff with the chops to showcase his strengths and hide any weaknesses he might have. Unless we're all going to start wringing our hands about that new staff now (which, given how easily everyone seems to panic, wouldn't surprise me), I just don't see the concern in this case. Does anyone really think Capers is going to throw him out in space and coverage if he doesn't think he can handle it? Seriously? On those downs where the OLB has to cover a zone, you put Chillar in there, since that's his strength. Ta-da.

I'm really not worried about the LB position. DL, that's a different matter, pending any moves that have yet to be made.

Yeah, that guy.

Talking about Jones / Nelson....

I don't understand why people are calling Jones only a deep threat. Does anyone remember that preseason game against the Bengals where he got his helmet knocked off and then ran in for the TD?

He is a big, strong wide reciever with great hands. He doesn't "catch" the ball, he "snags" it out of the air no matter where it is, he has strong enough hands to catch it.

So I don't understand how he is considered a deep threat only WR.
