There's validity to your thesis. We can blame McCarthy, but he is what he is. We should accept that. At this point, the blame has to be placed at the top for making half-assed moves and not moving on several years ago, or at the very least, last off season. Half-ass changes result in half-ass results. McCarthy is no longer the best person for the Packers, but I don't blame him for not quitting. I blame his leadership for not making the tough decisions to clean house and hit the reset button.

I do worry about Murphy destroying what we have going, but I think he will defer to Gute when it matters. This "tripartite of authority" arrangement existed primarily to protect Mike. That's probably not needed anymore. Let's see what Gutekunst has got. Honestly I worry about him a little bit, in terms of deferring to Aaron. Aaron doesn't need to be deferred to right now. He needs someone who can stand up to him.

McCarthy and Ball > Brian G > Murphy

That's how it works best.

I think taking the power to fire McCarthy away from Gute was an attempt to ease him into his new role and prevent him from doing anything rash or simply firing him to bring in his own guy. Not that that would have been wrong but sometimes new bosses tend to make changes just to make changes. I would expect and certainly hope that any new head coach would be Gute's responsibility. Otherwise, like you said, how can you expect a GM to operate with his authority being undermined like that.

Buckeye doesn't care for the moves that Gute made but I disagree Granted they didn't all turn out but he addresses many of the issues we had. It appears the Graham may not be the answer at TE but it was an issue and Gute addressed it. Hindsight says offering Burton half a million more than the Bears did may have been a better choice but he did address the issue of our need for a TE. I think his draft was pretty damn good. Alexander looks like a star in the making and picking up the extra pick in the process, even though it will probably be #32, was a great move. Maybe he dropped the ball in drafting three rookie WRs but I think MVS and ESB look like they may be able to contribute. He probably could have brought in a vet WR but can you predict injuries to Allison and Cobb? And he did have Graham. I think out pass catching situation was decent before the injuries set in and JG didn't produce like it was hoped he would. I certainly respect your opinions Buckeye but is it possible that some of your dislike is a result of the moves not turning out the way we all had hoped?

I know they say injuries are no excuse but really they are. Well maybe not an excuse but they are a legit reason. You simply can't expect the same performance out of your back of the roster guys. They either don't have the talent or hopefully they just don't have the experience. One positive note to the injuries is that a lot of those back of the roster guys are getting the experience so hopefully we will see if they do have some talent.

I do think McCarthy will be gone after this year. Those hoping for it to be sooner I'd say don't hold your breath and to be honest I don't think it should happen sooner. I really don't see any advantage to it. An interim coach is likely to be an in house candidate and I really don't like the idea of making any of our assistants the permanent HC so why make the change now.

I'm just glad my opinion of importance of the NFL and the Green Bay Packers has changed enough over the years so I do not feel embarrassed when stuff like this happens. Nothing I can ever do will have any affect on anything they will ever do so I guess I don't feel the need to be embarrassed when they play like they do.

Did anyone else hear the pregame show when they talked about playing defense against the Packers? It was something like this offense is so easy to defense because it's the same offense they been running since 1995 with Brett Favre. Now when former player/ analyst can see this i am sure a DC can really see it.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

The offense hasn't changed much since 2012.

Just because someone is an analyst of a sport, doesn't mean he's an expert on the team he's commenting on.

If you want to see one issue that is wrong with the Packers offense, it's this right here.

Rodgers saw Graham there. He knew he was wide open -- and decided to run anyway. And this isn't the anomaly; it's the new norm. That's not behavior befitting a supposedly elite quarterback, much less the highest-paid player in league history. The question is: what's going on in Aaron Rodgers' head right now?

Mucky Tundra (8-May) : Bust it is then
