I'm not denying any of this. I'm merely pointing out that we "control our own destiny". And more than that, we don't have to be anything special or become a different team. A win vs the Lions, Texans, Jaguars, and Bears can put us in the playoffs.

I'm only being optimistic, yet I don't feel it takes a ton of optimism to think we have a good shot at winning said 4 games.

Matt.. I know and I am sorry for ranting in your positive thread.

Usually I am fairly optimistic in my approach.. but this team has had one problem after another this year... we are either less talented than I thought or we have to really look at the lack of leadership on this club..

We are better than we played tonight.. so hopefully this will light a fire.. well probably for only next week.. but after tonight.. I will take it.

Carolina is going to be tough so I hope that fire is lit already.

No need to apologize, man. I hear everything you're saying 100%. I could be overly optimistic, though I suspect the proper level of optimism lies somewhere in between you and I.

I still think this team is as talented as we thought it was though. This was the first game in which we were handily beaten. 5-6 means something's wrong though. I just don't know what that something is.

Wow that schedule is brutal for the Vikings. Too bad the Giants won't have anything to play for though.

Is it me or does it seem like we lack a defensive leader now? Someone who's vocal and pumps people up. Barnett's out and our other oldest vet, KGB, was cut. Everyone else is young and is just filling roles, and I can't see Harris or Woodson as leader types. This team needs a strong defensive centerpice and I think we are really lacking that.

This was a bad loss. No debating that. But I know how this board can get - really high after wins and really low after losses.

I just spent the past 15 minutes looking at schedules, so let me try to put thi in perspective. We are certainly not out of the playoff hunt. In fact, I see a decent shot at winning the division even with 1 more loss, so long as that loss isn't to the Bears or Lions.

Let's play out some scenarios real quick operating under the assumption that we win the two division games and two of the other three. (I don't think beating two of Carolina, Jacksonville, and Houston is a reach.) That would put us at 9-7. Lets take a look at the Vikings and Bears.

We'll start with the Vikings/Bears game next week and look at the ramifications for each team winning.

First up: Vikings.

A win vs the Bears gives them 7 wins, meaning they would need 3 more wins to win the division if we get out 9 wins. We hold the tie breaker against since the season series is tied, but we would have a better division record after beating the Lions and Bears. Their other 4 games look like this:

@ Detroit
@ Arizona
vs Atlanta
vs NYG

We could catch a bad break if the Giants have nothing to play for in Week 17, but even so, I don't see a 3-1 record as likely. Sure, it could happen, but I would still see our chances of winning the division as reasonable.

Next up: Bears

A win vs the Vikings next week gives them 7 wins, meaning they too would need 3 more victories to win the division. Again, this is assuming our win over them in Week 16 giving us the head-to-head tie breaker. Let's take a look at their schedule:

vs Jacksonville
vs New Orleans
vs Green Bay
@ Houston

Now we've assumed our win vs the Bears, so that means they would have to sweep the remaining three games. It could happen, but it's not likely.

So what does all of this show? It shows that if we beat the Bears and the Lions (not unreasonable victories), I still think we have the best shot to win the division, even if we lose one of the Carolina/Jacksonville/Houston games.

Now, if we don't beat the Bears and Lions, all bets are off. But I'm trying to bring some optimism to the board. Truth is, we're still in pretty decent shape. (So long as our defense doesn't ever play again like they did tonight.)

- KGB fails to recover from injury
- Jenkins goes down

Tonight our D lost this game. Not to say the Offense was mistake free, but we failed to execute. Most glaringly though, we failed to get a pass rush yet again, and failed in Run D yet again.

At some point, when McCarthy keeps referencing the same mistakes happening over and over again (gap control, shedding blockers, getting low in the stance, etc.)... well either the players are total morons or they are simply not talented enough to cut it.

For the first time this season, I've realized our D-line isn't good enough to cut it. Jenkins going out hurt big time, and KGB not returning to form hurt too. Regardless, Ted has some good of fashion work to do this year...

The games are won and lost in the trenches. And you can easily argue that our O and D line have been responsible for the vast majority of our losses.

the packers are 0-3 against the NFC south and you think Carolina will be easy ? EVERY team has a tough run in right now i bet a number of you had last night down as a win .... the vikings chances lay not with the team , but with Goodall until he decides what going to happen with the williams boys no one knows hows this season will end for our division , all i will say is its going down to the wire

sorry but the "injury" excuse doesn't wash with me , plenty of teams have far worst problems than the packers as far as injuries go , you was facing one of them last night yourself

Martha Careful (10-May) : 1. this is true of all our linemen. 2. His run block is fine. 3. If all OL played like he has, we would win SB.
beast (10-May) : Meyers pass blocking is really good, his run blocking is really not.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : And the OL protections seem to be good.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : I really don't know lol. I don't see him getting blown up.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : -3 buwahhhahaaha
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : 4th
Zero2Cool (9-May) : because he's 1st
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : Myers isn't even the 3rd best C on the roster atm
Martha Careful (9-May) : I am not sure I understand the Myers hate. He was consistently our third best lineman. RG and LT were worse.
beast (9-May) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.
beast (9-May) : Center is usually considered the easiest position physically if you can handle the snap stuff.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : Bust it is then
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Context. Sounds like Myers won't be cross-trained. C or bust.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : @BookOfEli_NFL Packers pass game coordinator, Jason Vrable said that Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks shared a placed in Florida while train
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : For now...
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers go about evaluating their "best five," OL coach Luke Butkus makes on thing clear: "Josh Myers is our center."
beast (8-May) : Though I'm a bit surprised letting go of CBs, I thought we needed more not less
beast (8-May) : It was confusing with two DB Anthony Johnson anyways
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers actually had Ray Lewis on the phone.
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers wanted to draft Ray Lewis. Ravens stole him.
Martha Careful (6-May) : Happy 93rd Birthday to the Greatest Baseball Player of All-Time...Willie Mays
Zero2Cool (6-May) : Walter Stanely's son
buckeyepackfan (6-May) : and released CB Anthony Johnson and DL Deandre Johnson and waived/injured WR Thyrick Pitts (thigh-rick).
buckeyepackfan (6-May) : The Green Bay Packers have signed WR Julian Hicks, OL Lecitus Smith (luh-SEET-us) and WR Dimitri Stanley
Zero2Cool (6-May) : Petty, but it's annoying me how the NFL is making the schedule release an event.
Mucky Tundra (4-May) : @mattschneidman Matt LaFleur on how he tore his pec: “Got in a fight with the bench press. I lost.”
Zero2Cool (3-May) : Jordan Love CAN sign an extension as of today. Might tak weeks/months though
TheKanataThrilla (3-May) : Packers decline 5th year option for Stokes
Mucky Tundra (3-May) : @ProFootballTalk Jaylen Warren: Steelers' special teams coach has discussed Justin Fields returning kicks.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : Season officially ending tonight for Bucks ... sad face
Zero2Cool (2-May) : Giannis Antetokounmpo is listed as out for tonight's game.
dfosterf (2-May) : Surprisingly low initially is my guess cap wise, but gonna pay the piper after that
dfosterf (2-May) : The number on Love is going to be brutal.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : May 3rd. Extension day for Jordan Love. (soonest)
Zero2Cool (1-May) : USFL MVP QB Alex McGough moved to WR. So that's why no WR drafted!
earthquake (1-May) : Packers draft starters at safety ever few years. Collins, Clinton-Dix, Savage
beast (1-May) : Why can't the rookies be a day 1 starter? Especially when we grabbed 3 of them at the position
dfosterf (1-May) : Not going to be shocked if Gilmore goes to the Lions.
dfosterf (1-May) : I hear you dhazer, but my guess would be Gilmore Colts and Howard Vikings from what little has been reported.
Mucky Tundra (30-Apr) : S learn from McKinney who learns from Hafley who learns from the fans. Guaranteed Super Bowl
Zero2Cool (30-Apr) : could*
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Safeties should learn from Xavier.
dhazer (29-Apr) : And what about grabbing a Gilmore or Howard at CB ? Those are all Free Agents left
dhazer (29-Apr) : out of curiosity do they try and sign Simmons or Hyde to let these young safeties learn from, they can't be day 1 starters.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : I miss having Sam Shields.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Not that he's making excuses, just pointing it out
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : That's for dang sure. Make our erratic kicker have no excuse!
packerfanoutwest (28-Apr) : having a great long snapper is gold
Zero2Cool (28-Apr) : LaFleur looking like he had some weight. Coachin will do that lol
