Esiason list omits Rodgers

Boomer Esiason of CBS-TV's "The NFL Today" on Sunday picked his top 10 quarterbacks in the league, based on their performances in the first six weeks of this season.

Aaron Rodgers of the Packers did not make the cut, which earned Esiason some barbs from two of his colleagues, Shannon Sharpe and Bill Cowher. Both Sharpe and Cowher argued Rodgers deserved to be on the list.

To cast his list, Esiason said he used the criteria of victories, touchdown passes, completion percentage, interceptions, sacks and intangibles (including leadership). Esiason's list in order:

1. Peyton Manning of Indianapolis; 2. Drew Brees of New Orleans; 3. Eli Manning of the New York Giants; 4. Brett Favre of Minnesota; 5. Kyle Orton of Denver; 6. Tom Brady of New England. 7. Ben Roethlisberger of Pittsburgh; 8. Matt Ryan of Atlanta; 9. Matt Schaub of Houston; 10. Joe Flacco of Baltimore.

Esiason said he had to leave some good quarterbacks off the list and named Philip Rivers of San Diego, Rodgers, Carson Palmer of Cincinnati, Jay Cutler of Chicago, Kurt Warner of Arizona and Donovan McNabb of Philadelphia.

Sharpe, who sits next to Esiason on the set of "The NFL Today," did not say which player he would take off the list, but argued that Rodgers deserved a place on it.

"The first two are concrete," Sharpe said, referring to Peyton Manning and Brees. "I can live with those two picks. The only guy that I had on the list that you didn't have was Aaron Rodgers. I know that he has taken 25 sacks through the first five games. But those eight touchdown passes and 104 quarterback rating, that's enough to get him on that list."

Cowher said he would have taken Schaub off the list and put Rodgers in his place.

"No. 1, you don't have Tom Brady in the top five," Cowher said. "Kyle Orton over Tom Brady? I'm going to pick one guy. (Compare) Aaron Rodgers and Matt Schaub. Third-down passing, pretty important stat. Aaron Rodgers, second in the National Football League, Schaub 16th. Fourth-quarter passing - that's where you separate quarterbacks. Aaron Rodgers 10, Schaub 20th. Quarterback rating encompasses it all. Aaron Rodgers five, Schaub six."

Casserly praises Cutler deal

Charley Casserly of CBS-TV said the two-year contract extension the Chicago Bears recently gave quarterback Jay Cutler was a deal that was good for both sides.

"From Cutler's point of view, you got $30 million of new money, $20 million guaranteed, and a $15-million-a-year average, which on new money ranks fourth in the NFL.

"From the Bears' point of view, it's a five-year average of $9.8 million, which ranks 15th in the NFL. So the Bears can be proud of that.

"The best thing, from a general manager's point of view, that I saw in this deal as I analyzed it is the Bears took money from the last year of the deal and moved it into the first year of the deal because they had salary cap room to do it.

"They left themselves with a salary of only $8.5 million the last year of the deal. As a GM, you never want to be negotiating off a high number at the end of the deal when you go to do an extension. Good job by the Bears."

Big, big show

Steve Mariucci of the NFL Network said the Vikings at Packers game Sunday at Lambeau Field is going to be big.

How big?

"It's going to be like the Beatles going on 'The Ed Sullivan Show.' It's going to be highly anticipated."

Holmgren's return to Seattle?

Reporter Michael Lombardi of the NFL Network suggested former Packers and Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren may want to return to Seattle as a general manager.

"The Bill Parcells bug is going around the NFL," Lombardi said. "A lot of coaches would like to return in a Bill Parcells-type of role. After speaking to two people very close to former Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren, they've indicated that Holmgren would like to return maybe as a general manager, and the place I believe he has his eye on is Seattle."

Parcells has the title of executive vice president-football operations for the Miami Dolphins, with authority over general manager Jeff Ireland.

"The Seahawks' current general manager, Tim Ruskell,is under a contract that expires at the end of this season," Lombardi said. "If Seahawks owner Paul Allen chose not to renew that contract, Holmgren still has a very good relationship with Allen, and he would like to go back there."

I care less what "Boomer" has to say.. he can babble all he wants to raise a little more talk upon himself..

Rodgers performance, leadership and stats stack up against any QB in the league.. that includes Brady, Brees and Manning.

Most importantly his poise in the pocket and on the field matches up.. that is where the rubber meets the road.

I would put Rodgers on the list, but at this point in the season you can make a case for a lot of guys. So I don't have a big problem with it.

Rodgers current stats:

Games Rating Com Att % yrds ave TD INT
6 110.8	121	184	65.8	1702	9.3	11	2

Also, add 1 rushing TD. What's really impressive is he's this good with a horrible OL.

Eli Manning? Matt Schaub? Eli Manning? Joe Flacco? Eli-freaking-Manning?

I'd replace those three with Rodgers, Rivers and Palmer.

I would put both Rodgers and Brady in the top 5 wit Palmer close behind.

Rodgers should be on that list. Schuab and Orton over him, come on. Orton has done well but would he really be the 5th QB I would pick if you had one QB for the SB or one QB for a game winning drive? Not even close, same with Schuab.

Also, I do not really see the hype about Rivers? He's good but I do not think he's anything special.

Zero2Cool (2m) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.
Zero2Cool (1h) : And the OL protections seem to be good.
Zero2Cool (1h) : I really don't know lol. I don't see him getting blown up.
Zero2Cool (1h) : -3 buwahhhahaaha
Mucky Tundra (1h) : 4th
Zero2Cool (1h) : because he's 1st
Mucky Tundra (3h) : Myers isn't even the 3rd best C on the roster atm
Martha Careful (4h) : I am not sure I understand the Myers hate. He was consistently our third best lineman. RG and LT were worse.
beast (8h) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.
beast (8h) : Center is usually considered the easiest position physically if you can handle the snap stuff.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : Bust it is then
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Context. Sounds like Myers won't be cross-trained. C or bust.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : @BookOfEli_NFL Packers pass game coordinator, Jason Vrable said that Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks shared a placed in Florida while train
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : For now...
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers go about evaluating their "best five," OL coach Luke Butkus makes on thing clear: "Josh Myers is our center."
beast (8-May) : Though I'm a bit surprised letting go of CBs, I thought we needed more not less
beast (8-May) : It was confusing with two DB Anthony Johnson anyways
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers actually had Ray Lewis on the phone.
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers wanted to draft Ray Lewis. Ravens stole him.
Martha Careful (6-May) : Happy 93rd Birthday to the Greatest Baseball Player of All-Time...Willie Mays
Zero2Cool (6-May) : Walter Stanely's son
buckeyepackfan (6-May) : and released CB Anthony Johnson and DL Deandre Johnson and waived/injured WR Thyrick Pitts (thigh-rick).
buckeyepackfan (6-May) : The Green Bay Packers have signed WR Julian Hicks, OL Lecitus Smith (luh-SEET-us) and WR Dimitri Stanley
Zero2Cool (6-May) : Petty, but it's annoying me how the NFL is making the schedule release an event.
Mucky Tundra (4-May) : @mattschneidman Matt LaFleur on how he tore his pec: “Got in a fight with the bench press. I lost.”
Zero2Cool (3-May) : Jordan Love CAN sign an extension as of today. Might tak weeks/months though
TheKanataThrilla (3-May) : Packers decline 5th year option for Stokes
Mucky Tundra (3-May) : @ProFootballTalk Jaylen Warren: Steelers' special teams coach has discussed Justin Fields returning kicks.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : Season officially ending tonight for Bucks ... sad face
Zero2Cool (2-May) : Giannis Antetokounmpo is listed as out for tonight's game.
dfosterf (2-May) : Surprisingly low initially is my guess cap wise, but gonna pay the piper after that
dfosterf (2-May) : The number on Love is going to be brutal.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : May 3rd. Extension day for Jordan Love. (soonest)
Zero2Cool (1-May) : USFL MVP QB Alex McGough moved to WR. So that's why no WR drafted!
earthquake (1-May) : Packers draft starters at safety ever few years. Collins, Clinton-Dix, Savage
beast (1-May) : Why can't the rookies be a day 1 starter? Especially when we grabbed 3 of them at the position
dfosterf (1-May) : Not going to be shocked if Gilmore goes to the Lions.
dfosterf (1-May) : I hear you dhazer, but my guess would be Gilmore Colts and Howard Vikings from what little has been reported.
Mucky Tundra (30-Apr) : S learn from McKinney who learns from Hafley who learns from the fans. Guaranteed Super Bowl
Zero2Cool (30-Apr) : could*
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Safeties should learn from Xavier.
dhazer (29-Apr) : And what about grabbing a Gilmore or Howard at CB ? Those are all Free Agents left
dhazer (29-Apr) : out of curiosity do they try and sign Simmons or Hyde to let these young safeties learn from, they can't be day 1 starters.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : I miss having Sam Shields.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Not that he's making excuses, just pointing it out
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : That's for dang sure. Make our erratic kicker have no excuse!
packerfanoutwest (28-Apr) : having a great long snapper is gold
Zero2Cool (28-Apr) : LaFleur looking like he had some weight. Coachin will do that lol
Zero2Cool (28-Apr) : Thanks Mucky and whomever created topcos for each pick!
Zero2Cool (28-Apr) : Insane about Kingsley
