I think I have to disagree PFWT. Crabtree would be #3 on the depth chart in my opinion, and that'd be no small feat considering our talent.

True, but is that really what you want from a top 10 pick? I personally was surprised when we went with Nelson last year, so I can't imagine this. Obviously Crabtree is more of a talent, but I think we have more pressing needs that must be addressed.

I fail to understand all this handwringing over the fact we might (okay, we would) lose Ruvell Martin if we draft Crabtree. In 4 seasons, Martin has given us a whopping 52 catches for 749 yards (14.4 ypc) and 6 (count 'em, SIX!) TDs. Even if his performance was sub-par, Crabtree could exceed those numbers his rookie season!

Packers fans get way too hung up on liking their players who are "good guys" instead of worrying about performance on the field. Sure, I like Ruvell too, but I want the Packers to be an offensive juggernaut.

Do we have other pressing needs? Yes. But the Cardinals made it to the Super Bowl last year on the backs of their offense. Their defense was dreadful. Why would we keep a guy on our roster who has averaged 1.5 TDs and 125 yards a season when we could have someone who might get us 10 or more TDs and 800 or more yards a season? There is no logic to that, only maudlin sentimentality.

Oh, and don't give me, "But Martin is an excellent blocker!" In 4 seasons, the guy has played in all of 28 games -- 7 games a season. He doesn't do that much blocking for the Packers even when he is healthy. He spends most of his time on the gameday inactive list.

I should add that I am advocating neither for nor against the drafting of Crabtree. I am only saying that "We might lose Ruvell Martin" is a TERRIBLE argument against drafting Crabtree. If anything, it's an argument FOR drafting him.

I want Crabtree.

The more I think about it the more I believe taking B.J. Raji over Michael Crabtree would be the same as taking Vonnie Holiday over Randy Moss.

Yeah Holiday is a good player and Raji probably will be too, but Crabtree is the biggest difference maker in this draft and arguably the best overall player.

If he's there, GB should take him.

Three years from now nobody is going to remember what GB needed. They'll remember who they picked and who they passed on.

Driver is 34 and James Jones can make for good trade bait. I'm sure Bill Parcells would give up something good for the 3-4 defense for Jones.

Having Aaron Rodgers three years from now with potentially Greg Jennings, Michael Crabtree, Jordy Nelson, and Jermichael Finley would nothing short of amazing.

Way to put your foot in your mouth on your very first post, Majikowski. To make a bold claim like that, you damn well better be able to back it up. lol

I don't care about losing Martin. I didn't expect him back last year. My biggest problem is that the team needs O and D line. Even if Crabtree makes #3 this year. IMO the production of the passing game is not going to be improved that much. I don't think the difference between Crabtree and Jones will be that much and that is really what the change would be. Overall yes the corp depth would improve, but I don't think it would help as much as fixing the run blocking, pass protection, run defense or pass rush.

And I am all but positive that there will be a very good player that will fix one of them 4 other spots.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

People constantly forget Driver's age -- and the fact we had both Jones and Martin out most of the season with injury. Our receiving corps is not as invulnerable as people seem to think. We're one Jennings' knee injury away from mediocrity.

What do you think we can realistically get for Jones, porky?

Well I'd have to look up and down a roster to see. I think another d-lineman would be reasonable or probably a player picked in the 3rd or 4th round that was high on the Packers radar in a previous draft.

I think GB could get a fourth rounder for Jones. Maybe even a 6th in 2010 too if we're talking draft picks.

Honestly, Jones is a nice player. He has potential and he could be great, but its' Jake Reed vs. Randy Moss all over again. Reed had four 1,000 yard seasons in a row for Minnesota and they still took Moss.

The result was 15-1 and an NFC Championship game appearance.

I wouldn't be upset if we took Crabtree, but I don't think it's the right call. Obviously there are no guarantees with a player, and that includes him. I think they just need to address other concerns.

Zero2Cool (10h) : Sources spoke of many, many times last summer where Hackett called a play, then Rodgers changed it completely at the line
Martha Careful (10-May) : 1. this is true of all our linemen. 2. His run block is fine. 3. If all OL played like he has, we would win SB.
beast (10-May) : Meyers pass blocking is really good, his run blocking is really not.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : And the OL protections seem to be good.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : I really don't know lol. I don't see him getting blown up.

Mucky Tundra (9-May) : 4th
Zero2Cool (9-May) : because he's 1st
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : Myers isn't even the 3rd best C on the roster atm
Martha Careful (9-May) : I am not sure I understand the Myers hate. He was consistently our third best lineman. RG and LT were worse.
beast (9-May) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.
beast (9-May) : Center is usually considered the easiest position physically if you can handle the snap stuff.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : Bust it is then
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Context. Sounds like Myers won't be cross-trained. C or bust.

Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers actually had Ray Lewis on the phone.
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers wanted to draft Ray Lewis. Ravens stole him.

dfosterf (2-May) : The number on Love is going to be brutal.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : May 3rd. Extension day for Jordan Love. (soonest)
Zero2Cool (1-May) : USFL MVP QB Alex McGough moved to WR. So that's why no WR drafted!
earthquake (1-May) : Packers draft starters at safety ever few years. Collins, Clinton-Dix, Savage
beast (1-May) : Why can't the rookies be a day 1 starter? Especially when we grabbed 3 of them at the position
dfosterf (1-May) : Not going to be shocked if Gilmore goes to the Lions.
dfosterf (1-May) : I hear you dhazer, but my guess would be Gilmore Colts and Howard Vikings from what little has been reported.
Mucky Tundra (30-Apr) : S learn from McKinney who learns from Hafley who learns from the fans. Guaranteed Super Bowl
Zero2Cool (30-Apr) : could*
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Safeties should learn from Xavier.
dhazer (29-Apr) : And what about grabbing a Gilmore or Howard at CB ? Those are all Free Agents left
dhazer (29-Apr) : out of curiosity do they try and sign Simmons or Hyde to let these young safeties learn from, they can't be day 1 starters.
