Receiver Michael Crabtree, who is already sounding at times like a guy who at some point will be publicly thanking his hands or doing sit ups in his driveway or nudging traffic cops with a car bumper or all of the above, made another ill-advised comment on Thursday.

The remark came during a live chat on NFL.com. According to RaiderBeat.com, Crabtree had this to say when asked about whether he wants to play for the Raiders (and, apparently, about whether hes cocky): Im not cocky at all, Crabtree said. People talk, man, but Im a cool guy. As for playing for the Raiders, no comment.

Hmmmmm.

But the odd thing about this one is that the live chat currently contains no such no comment comment. But it does, however, contain a subsequent reference to the exchange.

Q: Why did you say no commit [sic] to playing for the raiders? Does that mean you wouldnt like to be a raider[?]

A: No, Id like to play for whoever picks me.

Yeah, right.

Were starting to get the feeling that, come Saturday, this guy will be sliding like Aaron Rodgers stretching a single into a double on a baseball diamond made of freshly Zambonied ice

I'm disliking this Crabtree more and more.

I don't see him saying "no comment" as such a big deal. He just choose not to comment. Our politicians sure do it enough.

I'm not so sure about other incidents, but this doesn't seem like a big deal at all to me. Just an attempt at making a story.

I mean, c'mon, we are talking about the Raiders here. A lot worse could be said then "no comment."

For all we know he was just being cautious so as not to throw the monkey wrench into future contract negotiations should they happen to draft him. Why is it that unless someone praises something or someone effusively nowadays, the media assumes it's a diss? That's a serious sign of a culture flaw, in my opinion -- always looking for signs of disrespect behind every word and gesture. It's primitive, tribalistic, and immature.

Since when is "no comment" an insult?

I'll defer to some other commenters:

Maybe Im just being the Devils advocate here but what if he said that because he has a pretty good idea that he is infact going to be a Raider.

It could be that he just isnt smart/smooth enough to come up with a way of answering the question without giving anything away.

If this is a big deal, then Eli Mannings facial expression when he was drafted number 1 was armageddon

At least he is not being a bitch like Eli Manning and saying - I wont play for your team cuase I am a Manning an entitled to do whatever I want. And its not fair because everyone loves Peyton more than me.

No comment Doesnt necessarily mean he doesnt want to play for Oakland. When I first read it I had a similar thought but then figured he probably didnt want to say anything in favor of one team or another. Granted, saying Ill be excited to play for any team that drafts me would have been smarter than No comment but I dont think he meant to diss the Raiders.

I dont see any particular diss in the exchange. Perhaps hes already been in discussions with the Raiders and isnt at liberty to comment on them. Perhaps his agent has told him to no comment any specific team questions. Thats no diss.

Im not one to always accuse you of making up stories, Mike, but this one is just ridiculously piling on a guy you dont seem to like.

I may wonder about Crabtree's maturity but I have to agree "No comment" is not the end of the world. He may well not want to play for them (who would) but it is not much of a diss if any at all.

I find it more annoying and offensive that the NFL police felt compelled to cclean up the post.

Well, you could argue that by saying "No comment," he basically asked it to be stricken from the record. A "No comment" in the transcript is redundant for all practical purposes.

You don't put "He didn't say anything" in a transcript.

I really don't care about his attitude. It'll be interesting to see whether all this "attitude" stuff coming out about him has any merit to it. I think teams might just be leaking stuff out so a certain team sways away from him.

Even if he is cocky, I don't care. He's the best player in the draft IMO.

Your opinion sucks! 🙂 j/k ... I haven't seen him play at all. Everywhere I turn I'm hearing more negative things about him from reporters. I've yet to hear / read a quote from him that solidifies it.

This little blurb just made me dislike him more, because he's a dhazer guy 🙂

ya I'm not sure about his attitude ... but if it were me and I was about to be drafted and I didnt want to play for a team I would probably say no comment also.

I mean its better then lying ... heck if I was a draftree and someone asked me about playing for the bears I would be like err well I grew up in wisconsin.

If reporters don't like someone, that's usually a recommendation in my book. I consider most reporters hacks desperate for an angle. I've worked for a paper before -- it's stressful coming up with something, anything by deadline. Sometimes you just write something to avoid getting fired.

Journalists' so-called analyses carry little weight with me. Ultimately their main job is to get a reaction. It doesn't matter what reaction.

Martha Careful (10-May) : 1. this is true of all our linemen. 2. His run block is fine. 3. If all OL played like he has, we would win SB.
beast (10-May) : Meyers pass blocking is really good, his run blocking is really not.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : And the OL protections seem to be good.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : I really don't know lol. I don't see him getting blown up.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : -3 buwahhhahaaha
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : 4th
Zero2Cool (9-May) : because he's 1st
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : Myers isn't even the 3rd best C on the roster atm
Martha Careful (9-May) : I am not sure I understand the Myers hate. He was consistently our third best lineman. RG and LT were worse.
beast (9-May) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.
beast (9-May) : Center is usually considered the easiest position physically if you can handle the snap stuff.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : Bust it is then
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Context. Sounds like Myers won't be cross-trained. C or bust.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : @BookOfEli_NFL Packers pass game coordinator, Jason Vrable said that Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks shared a placed in Florida while train
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : For now...
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers go about evaluating their "best five," OL coach Luke Butkus makes on thing clear: "Josh Myers is our center."
beast (8-May) : Though I'm a bit surprised letting go of CBs, I thought we needed more not less
beast (8-May) : It was confusing with two DB Anthony Johnson anyways
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers actually had Ray Lewis on the phone.
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers wanted to draft Ray Lewis. Ravens stole him.
Martha Careful (6-May) : Happy 93rd Birthday to the Greatest Baseball Player of All-Time...Willie Mays
Zero2Cool (6-May) : Walter Stanely's son
buckeyepackfan (6-May) : and released CB Anthony Johnson and DL Deandre Johnson and waived/injured WR Thyrick Pitts (thigh-rick).
buckeyepackfan (6-May) : The Green Bay Packers have signed WR Julian Hicks, OL Lecitus Smith (luh-SEET-us) and WR Dimitri Stanley
Zero2Cool (6-May) : Petty, but it's annoying me how the NFL is making the schedule release an event.
Mucky Tundra (4-May) : @mattschneidman Matt LaFleur on how he tore his pec: “Got in a fight with the bench press. I lost.”
Zero2Cool (3-May) : Jordan Love CAN sign an extension as of today. Might tak weeks/months though
TheKanataThrilla (3-May) : Packers decline 5th year option for Stokes
Mucky Tundra (3-May) : @ProFootballTalk Jaylen Warren: Steelers' special teams coach has discussed Justin Fields returning kicks.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : Season officially ending tonight for Bucks ... sad face
Zero2Cool (2-May) : Giannis Antetokounmpo is listed as out for tonight's game.
dfosterf (2-May) : Surprisingly low initially is my guess cap wise, but gonna pay the piper after that
dfosterf (2-May) : The number on Love is going to be brutal.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : May 3rd. Extension day for Jordan Love. (soonest)
Zero2Cool (1-May) : USFL MVP QB Alex McGough moved to WR. So that's why no WR drafted!
earthquake (1-May) : Packers draft starters at safety ever few years. Collins, Clinton-Dix, Savage
beast (1-May) : Why can't the rookies be a day 1 starter? Especially when we grabbed 3 of them at the position
dfosterf (1-May) : Not going to be shocked if Gilmore goes to the Lions.
dfosterf (1-May) : I hear you dhazer, but my guess would be Gilmore Colts and Howard Vikings from what little has been reported.
Mucky Tundra (30-Apr) : S learn from McKinney who learns from Hafley who learns from the fans. Guaranteed Super Bowl
Zero2Cool (30-Apr) : could*
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Safeties should learn from Xavier.
dhazer (29-Apr) : And what about grabbing a Gilmore or Howard at CB ? Those are all Free Agents left
dhazer (29-Apr) : out of curiosity do they try and sign Simmons or Hyde to let these young safeties learn from, they can't be day 1 starters.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : I miss having Sam Shields.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Not that he's making excuses, just pointing it out
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : That's for dang sure. Make our erratic kicker have no excuse!
packerfanoutwest (28-Apr) : having a great long snapper is gold
Zero2Cool (28-Apr) : LaFleur looking like he had some weight. Coachin will do that lol
