Yeah, I never was very good with grammar. Would have pulled off a 34 on the ACT if I could have raised my English sore from a 30. I concede to your supior expertise on the subject, however the definition I gave is still correct.

A peak can not be followed by further growth, however a peak doesn't not have to be followed by decline of any kind. I used the word correctly.

No problem. Although I used the word incorrectly, I maintain that a peak doesn't have to be followed by an immediate decline. Therefore the definition you gave is incorrect. However plateauing is exactly how I meant to describe Rodgers. Thank you for taking time to clear this up :thumbright:

We're not talking about the connotation but about the denotation of the word. Look it up, man.  :P

A peak implies a point. A point implies an upward angle followed very quickly by a downward angle. *shrugs*

Yes, LTF, I'm being a dick.

Hey guys let's argue semantics in a thread with a title stating a mediocre (at best) quarterback is better than our good (or great) quarterback. This discussion will surely bring forth great epiphanies!!!

+1 (I think I gave you 2 +1s today but don't remember where I gave you the first one) for using epiphanies in a sentence. That's too funny.

OK. Thing is, let's revisit this thread at the end of the year when Aaron Rodgers is going for his first MVP. Cutler has impressed me so far this year. He's a good QB. Rodgers is elite.

As QB he definitely hasn't reached his peak, but from a strictly physical standpoint he pretty much has.

"djcubez" wrote:

What does that even mean? You don't think he could be stronger or faster? Or do you mean you don't think he can grow any taller? I don't understand.

"Chutzpah515" wrote:

I asume it does mean as much.

Your body is not going to get stronger when you approach your 30s. I doubt that his physical state at its peak at a certain age won't be higher than it would be now.

That said, there's always things to improve on. I don't know if his body is in that optimal shape, obviously. That's more something for NSD to look at.

What should easily make up for that little drop in physical ability should be his experience. His reads, the windows he sees. They're already pretty darn good, but they should only get better.

Something Cutler has had a couple of years of a headstart of when compared to Rodgers.

That's not necessarily true. In the field of powerlifting, for example, it's definitely not true. Powerlifters rarely attain their peak until 10 to 15 years after they start training, which usually puts them in their mid- to late-thirties. Some of the world's best powerlifters have been in their late thirties to early forties.

The difference between a quarterback's peak and a powerlifter's peak, I would guess, is that powerlifting is not a full-contact sport, so he's not taking the weekly beating that a quarterback takes, and the quarterback's skillset is more than just strength -- it's also finesse, which does tend to diminish with age.

It's an interesting topic to think about, thought.

So "peaked" is definitely not the right word for the context that's being used here.

What I think is trying to be said is that Aaron is "entering his PRIME"...and is getting to the best of his abilities(physically, mentally etc) and hitting his stride.

Entering his Prime and Peaking are not the same thing.

Entering his Prime means that Aaron is getting into his best years as a quarterback and playing at a very high level and beginning to reach his potential.

Saying he's PEAKED means, his abilities cannot get any better, and has already reached his potential. You're saying Aaron's hit a ceiling. NOT a compliment.

If you're saying he's entered his physical prime, I would agree, because he's definitely playing at a high level and his skills are becoming elite.

If you are saying he has PEAKED physically, you are stating that he has reached his physical limit and cannot get anybetter.

I completely disagree w/that.

Aaron's 26-27 years old. Athletes actually enter their physical prime around 28-32. Aaron's this good and has not quite even gotten there yet.
And w/the way athletes train and maintain their bodies, they can extend their prime years into their mid 30s (see Peyton Manning, Tom Brady).

So in conclusion, has Aaron entered his prime years? You can possilbly say so. Has he reached his potential as a QB and cannot get any better?
Not by a long shot. He's still learning, getting stronger, and getting smarter in the game. I would say it's way too premature to say a 26-27 year old QB has PEAKED in that way.
