Royce Newman's 2024 base salary was automatically increased to $3.116M because he earned the Proven Performance Enhancer benefit mandated by the CBA.  That meant his cap number for 2024 would be $3.241M ($3.116M base plus the remaining signing bonus proration of $124,834).  The Packers have reduced his pay and cap number recently.

Newman's base salary will be reduced to $1.125M, a reduction of $1.866M, but he gets a Game-Active bonus of $1M.  Since Newman was active for 17 games in 2023, his new cap number will be $2.375, a reduction of just $866,000.  Frankly, I had hoped for more relief.

Newman started two games last year (183 snaps), getting the rest of his snaps (73) on special teams as part of the field goal and extra point teams.  Even if the Packers found another lineman to take those special teams snaps, the Packers apparent fascination for Newman suggests that he is in the running for being active on game days as the seventh offensive linemen, so right now it seems quite possible he will again be active for all 17 games.  Still, there is a lot of training camp left, and the Packers added OTs Jordan Morgan, Travis Glover, and Donovan Jennings, plus OC Jacob Monk, so the top seven remains to be seen.

I think Newman has a pretty competent agent.

I don't know about Royce. Cutting his salary should help him as he fights for the last spot on the OL. He's competing against Andre Dillard, Travis Glover, and Jacob Monk. He does have the veteran experience on his side. My guess is he nudges Dillard out. Dillard has been bullied by the defense so far this camp.

Mucky Tundra (1h) : I mean, they traded for Willis after a year and a half of Clifford, seems pretty definitive
TheKanataThrilla (1h) : Do we with Clifford or Willis? You'd think Clifford has a better knowledge of the playbook
Mucky Tundra (3h) : Definitely filing that under the "I'm getting old" category
Mucky Tundra (3h) : Donald Drivers son Christian caught a TD pass playing for the University of Minnesota today.
Zero2Cool (3h) : Packers QB Jordan Love's initial timetable for return is in the 3-6 week range, per sources. And there's some early optimism he could return
Zero2Cool (8h) : Initial tests indicated Jordan Love’s ACL is intact. But there’s a wide range of outcomes based on additional scans, which will occur when t
Zero2Cool (6-Sep) : QB Malik Willis will be the only backup tonight behind Jordan Love vs. the Eagles.

Mucky Tundra (6-Sep) : Well speaking of shooting themselves in the foot

Zero2Cool (6-Sep) : Apple Pie. My favorite. Been a while
dfosterf (6-Sep) : Maybe pie still, but no whipped cream, ice cream or milk. Imstead, you get someone else's left over beer from yesterday to go with your pie
dfosterf (6-Sep) : Pie is good. You get no pie and fewer wins in fantasy due to being inflexible
Zero2Cool (5-Sep) : I like pie.
dfosterf (5-Sep) : Loved Gunnys. Never earned that particular rank. Neither did R Lee Armey from full metal jacket fame, but that is another story.
