Other nominees for NFC Special Teams Player of Week 1:

* Tampa Bay rookie punter CHRIS BRYAN, who punted seven times for 288 yards (41.1 average) with a long of 57 yards and placed two punts inside the 20-yard line.
* Washington kicker GRAHAM GANO, who had two field goals, including a 49-yarder.
* Green Bay kick returner JORDY NELSON, who averaged 31.2 yards per kickoff return, including a long of 51 yards.
* New Orleans kick returner COURTNEY ROBY, who had a team-high two special teams tackles and returned three kicks for 70 yards (23.3 average).

Yeah why can't we throw a street free agent out there returning kicks instead of this guy, he's sooooo terrible!

Dude, we need to drop almost a million a year on a guy with concussions and fumbling problem, like NOW! We need improvement!

I don't care if he can return it to the 50 every time, he just looks too slow and he will never break one for a TD.

"earthquake" wrote:

You don't care if he returns it to the 50 every time? ... seriously?

So you would rather have Will Blackmon return it to the 23 every time over Nelson returning it to 28 every time? ...

Honest I don't get it.... who cares how he looks as long as gets the job done with in the rules? (as opposed to the way the Patriots and Reggie Bush have been getting the job done)

After 2 sarcastic statements in a row I assumed it was a safe bet that mine would go over that way as well... guess I was wrong.

Hindsight's great.

Btw, is this all the confirmation that we need to call Jordy a good returner all of a sudden? I saw him run into a pile two times in the first half. Then he breaks one 50 yarder and that appears to be all the confirmation necessary.

You know who intercepted 3 passes in his career? Ahmad Carroll. He must've had some amazing cover and ballskills.

Bringing in Clifton Smith had a reason. Trying out Brandon Jackson at KR had a reason. Trying to get in Sam Shields, even though he fumbled every 2nd ball had a reason.

I hope it's no fluke and I'd love to see him break some more big ones, but I'm not expecting a whole lot more than a runback to the 18-24.

He was a good returner last year too and the fact is his returns helped us win the game last weekend.

He was fine. Average, but fine. Mr. consistency. Running it to the 18-24 yard line and running it into a pile.

He broke 2 KRs for more than 40 yards last year. On 25 attempt, that's not a whole lot.

A KR can be a weapon, ours is just a person who doesn't screw up. If he keeps going as strong as he did this week, he might've gotten it. It's hard to complain about a guy who's averaging 30 yards per return and got it past the 40 twice in 5 attempts.

He still doesn't look the part, but if he can get the job done, I'm fine.

Sorry... some people seriously feel the way you said. So I didn't realize your was sarcastic. Some feel returners need to be a threat to take one to the house once in a while. Nelson may not be a threat to take one to the house but he has very good averages.

Jordy has 5 kick returns for over 31 yards per KR. Two of which were 40 or more.

He took one to the house last year, but it was called back due to penalty. How is he not a threat to do something he's done?

Dang, you beat me to the punch.

Jordys, and all our returners, averages were hampered by penalties and poor blocking.
