The guys blocking Pat Williams looked like they were in a cow tipping contest last night. Jared Allen had a stat line of 0 tackles, 0 sacks, and 1 dive at Brees' knees after the ball was released. The secondary allows just about every pass thrown to be caught, but they are decent tacklers.

I saw at least 2 tacklets Allen was on.. One of which he was the first guy to hit and wrap up the ball carrier. So whatever stat line you looked at is false. Lets not forget that Brees doesn't get sacked very often. He's got the fastest release and decision-making in the NFL.

Their OTs get away with murder. They pass block by taking 3 steps back and grabbing and holding anything they can grab. What kind of football player gets carted off the field for a finger injury? Formo - you are going to need therapy this season.

So did Nawlins' OT. The refs were weird last night.. They let a TON of obvious holding and PI calls go on both teams. So you watching that and pointing it out now is a moot point. And it was McKinney that got carted off the field. Which I'm happy about, seriously. The guy is a worthless slug, and I'm hoping that he won't play another down in the purple again.

It could very well be because the guys blocking the Williamses are the two best guards in the league (Evans and Nicks), and Allen was blocked by a pro bowl tackle (Stinchcomb).

Kinda lost in the shuffle, because it was the very first drive, coupled with a LONG period of inefficiency by the Saints...

That opening drive by the Saints was absolutely masterful. It's almost hard to believe in retrospect how the rest of that game went after that.

A few comments on the game. I only watched the first 3 quarters, then took off afterward so didn't see the end of the game.

1. The Vikings D looked superb. The Saints were the best O in the NFL last year and Brees not getting the MVP was just lame. It's going to be Brees vs Rodgers for MVP this year.

Vikings made adjustments to the Saints adjustments fast and only held Brees & Co to 14 points. Yes, I know it should be 17 but that's still under 20 points.

2. Favre should have come back a week or two earlier. His communication with Berrian was awful. Berrian is listed as the #1 WR with Rice out and they better become friends fast or else it's going to be tough starting out the season for Favre. Either that or Favre needs to become more like Tom Brady and turn Camarillo into Wes Welker Jr.

3. It was obvious Favre was struggling after the Saints did what they could to take Shiancoe out of the game. Why did Chilly take out AP? Give AP the ball more. What Chillly should have done, especially when Favre had that 7 straight incompletions streak, is throw a quick screen to AP. Two birds with one stone - get a completion and get the ball in AP's hands.

4. Not only that, Vikings have a playmaker in Percy Harvin as well. Why did this guy only touch the ball twice offensively? Set up a screen to Harvin.

5. If the Saints can run against the once feared Vikings wall, so can Ryan Grant. This ought to be interesting.

6. I used to say the Saints D was their weakness. They looked magnificent last night. Are they for real? How are we going to do in the Championship Game against them? I no longer think it will be us vs the Vikings in the CG. Now I think we'll face the Saints. Would much rather face them in Lambeau than in New Orleans.

I could care less about a 'backup plan' at LT. I'll take any of your guys' LTs. Anything but that POS McKinney.

It didn't look that bad, with the young guy Loadholdt moving from RT to LT and Cook over at RT. I'm not a fan of Cook at any position other than center, but if it means McKinney isn't playing, I'll take it.

My only point is that the Vikings would have a lot of penalty yards to make up if they were to call all the holding and hands to the face penalties that are overlooked. Go back and watch. If any of those commentators did his job, they would point that out and then the league would have it's referees credibility challenged. And if my dumb ass can see that blatent shit, the guys getting paid for it, most certainly should call it. Of course, I'm certain you had on your Ritchie Blackmore glasses last night.

I think it is BS that tackles all over the league get to line up 2 to 3 yards off the line of scrimmage.

And my point is so would have Nawlin's. But, I already mentioned as such.

BTW, you only see the Vikings OT holding because that's all you are looking for. Ammo and the such.

My glasses are clear. Yours seems to be needing some windex.

i only watched the first half but as far as i'm concerned, the game was doomed from the start with that gawd awful star spangled banner rendition!! where do they FIND these people??

then nbc's complete lack of replays on flags was inexcusable! collinsworth & michaels talked about everything BUT what was going on in the game. they even referenced sharper being in on a tackle when he was on the sidelines sans uniform. nbc needs serious help with the camera AND the commentators.

onto brett. i thought he looked strange out there. seemed like he kept tripping over an invisible thread almost everytime the ball was snapped. i think his ankle is in much worse shape than i thought. my one wish for him is to NOT injure himself beyond repair. the way he looked last nite, maybe the damage is already done in that department. i dunno. we'll see what the rest of the season brings.
