Seriously, who do you cut to pick Smith (a RB) up? One of our FBs or TEs?

One of the FBs, TEs, OL, CBs or Swain...

IMO a OL or CB would be most likely... I know Smith isn't one of those but if your guy remain healthy you don't need 10 OL or 6 CBs (with Harris hopefully coming back at some point).

Now, S Gerald Alexander wouldn't have that problem...but the defenses he played for so far haven't exactly shined (Jags 27th against the pass in 2009; Detroit 27th in 2008/31st in 2007), and it says something that he got cut from one of those.

From his stats, he looks more like a run-stopping SS than a cover guy. He's started 27 games (played in 36), and has 111 solo tackles but only 11 passes defended (but has 4 interceptions).

edited for grammar...

I'd cut Korey Hall, but I don't think we're losing anyone that will make a huge different. IMO, Smith makes a difference. Look at the 1996 season and imagine it without Desmond Howard.

Why would any of the people mentioned in reference to making space on the roster be cut before Nick McDonald?

UDFA 3rd string offensive lineman who will probably not be active for a single game or a TE/FB who is going to at least contribute on special teams?

McDonald is VERY athletic OG/C who who has very good hand placement and footwork, but isn't close to have the strength currently needed... strength is one of the more easy things to fix IF his techniques are proper which they seem to be other than a tad high in his stance but it's not horrible like Barbre was.

I say cut Newhouse before McDonald. Because Newhouse doesn't have the quickness for OT (nether did Breno and see how they did coaching up Breno) and Newhouse has improper technique with his elbows making it extreme hard to impossible for him to bench a guy off of him and lock his elbows with that technique (which Moll had a similar problem but Moll did improve it over time).
