You've all seen it.
Pre-Season isn't important, so Capers isn't doing anything too crazy with the defense in the hopes of making sure our 2010-2011 opponents have nothing on us when trying to prepare.
I like the strategy, because it allows our defense to play fundamental football and see whether or not they're really good prototypes for their given roles in the 3-4.
But if this Pre-Season was an indicator on anything, it's that the defense has learned quickly... and the offense can score on any team at any time.
By learning quickly, look at the progress made in the first three games. We lost to Cleveland because we were pisspoor. We beat Seattle because of lucky breaks and more fundamentally sound play. We beat Indianapolis for a variety of reasons, but one reason was because the defense decided to step up and shut Manning down when it mattered.
Sometimes the best defense is a good offense, and we have a GREAT offense.
So the point I'm trying to make here is what if we continue to do this? Don't get me wrong here, I fully expect our defense to do some exotic Capers-signature blitzing, but if last year was any indicator of what to expect... it just might work.
We'll probably see some next week with Kevin Kolb and his lack of experience, but his extreme knowledge of Philly's playbook. I expect to see weird packages when we go against quarterbacks worth a damn.
But what teams with quarterbacks that really aren't going to tear us apart? Is there a point in dialing up blitzes for these third tier players and risking our defense becoming more "obvious?"
I'm probably just being paranoid by overthinking these scenarios, but heh, it was interesting at the time.
