Matthews hopes to hit field against Kansas City

GREEN BAY Clay Matthews believes he will return to practice next week but isnt sure if he will play in the Green Bay Packers preseason finale at Kansas City on Thursday.

The second-year linebacker has been out since he pulled a hamstring in the Aug. 7 Family Night scrimmage but said after Thursdays 59-24 win over the Indianapolis Colts that he expects to be back on the field in the next few days.

The Packers were off Friday and Saturday but have three practices today, Monday and Tuesday before leaving Wednesday for Kansas City.

I have a few more conditioning tests to handle, but Im making progress, Matthews said. Im real happy with where Im at, and I look forward to being back next week, whether that be Sunday, Monday, Tuesday or whatever day, but I do look to be back next week.

I'd rather he hits a QB than the field, but as long as he's hitting something.
