So is this the year Poppinga finally gets cut? How many linebackers are we keeping?

OLB: Mathews, Jones, Zombo
ILB: Barnett, Hawk, Chillar, Bishop

Obizor vs Poppinga for the last spot?

One last thing, if he makes the final roster, I hope they change his numbers. 47 is no LB number. 58 is still available. For an OLB, numbers in the 90s are pretty cool. We still have 97 and 99 open.

Technically Chillar won't be 'starting' at ILB because Barnett and Hawk have the inside linebacker spots. However Chillar plays when we're in nickel (which we do a lot) so he'll get plenty of snaps.

Zombo doesn't really come into competition with Bishop (who is the #4 ILB). Zombo is competing with Jones and Poppinga at OLB.

Poppinga is older and Bishop is unhappy and probably won't resign with the Packers if he can help it, so that would be an interesting call to make.

Maybe trade Bishop for a draft pick? Or just cut Poppinga?
I think I'd go with the happy player and the draft pick if they went with 7 but I think they'll go with 8 like normal.

i hope he keeps 47, i like it as a 3-4 OLB number, like Matthews at USC.

Anyone have any interest in bringing in Ayodele? Guy is unbelievably reliable and has a lot of experience in the middle of the 3-4 with Dal, Jax, and Denver. Could be good depth to say the least, only downfall I see is possibly stunting one of the younger guys growth, but if were saving spots for guys to leave next year (Bishop), or vets that have already hit their ceiling (Pop), then why not?

IF Bishop is happy and is planing to leave ASAP like as it sounds like he might be then I wouldn't be against trading him for a draft pick (they have said people have called in interested in Bishop) and bring in a Vet or bring a guy with potential or save a roster spot go with 7 LBers and keep an extra guy else where.

Hawk is either going to be extended or released next offseason. Bishop may end up starting next year, so I'm not so sure now is the time to move him.

Thankfully the Chillar at OLB experiment has been shelved for the time being. He showed he's not got the size to beat 300 lb starting calibre offensive tackles on a regular basis. He was only moved there because both Jones and Matthews were injured and we needed somebody to man the position and we're deep at ILB.

I don't like all of this talk about Hawk leaving. I don't get why so many of you dislike him...He's one of my favorite LBers.

Plus, Ted Thompson drafted him at #5, and he hasn't been a bust, so I don't see him leaving.

I seriously doubt we go with 7 backers, even with Havner able to fill in at ILB in a pinch. Most of our starters are already injured to some degree and OLB is crucial to the 3-4.

Problem is we're thin there so the question is can we find someone better on waivers. Apparently Poppinga has had a good camp but showed little to no pass rush ability last season.

Also your mistaken... Matthews wasn't hurt when they moved Chillar to OLB and that's not the only reason they moved Chillar to OLB. Chillar has played some OLB in the 3-4 before when he was with the Rams. They played mostly 4-3 with the Rams but the Defensive Coordinator (forget his name but I think he's now the DC in DC (with the Redskins) was slowly trying to move the team to the 3-4 and he was VERY trigger happy with blitzes and Chillar because a pretty good blitzer and Chillar was the blitzing LB the Packers had during his first year with the Packers, he didn't let blockers get their hands on him. That's why he was moved to OLB because he had a chance to be a good blitzer and I think Chillar could still practice at both ILB and OLB.
