Stevetarded, show me where I said that Packers should cut him. Thanks.

Btw, I'm not the irrational one.

Irrational = defending a player who isn't showing any effort, when this is his last chance to prove himself. THAT'S irrational.

I said he should be cut.. and I stand by it if Harrell isn't giving full effort.. which hasn't been qualified past some paid railbirds.. but that point remains.. a player in that position better be giving full effort..

But wanna blame someone for saying he should be cut... address it my way.

Now.. why can't we speak to the issue and not make such a discussion heated and personal?

We paid him another 408K to be on the roster again this season.. and will have to absorb a 550K of contract if we have to IR him again..

Get your checkbook out and I will drop everything this fall.. and I will be in tip top shape for 900K.. ;)

Harrell Deal..

7/27/2007: Signed a six-year, $14.507 million contract. The deal contains $8.1 million guaranteed, including a $1 million first-year roster bonus and a $5.3 million option bonus in the second year. 2009: $460,000 (+ $186,625 roster bonus), 2010: $550,000 (+ $408,375 roster bonus), 2011: $650,000 (+ $575,000 roster bonus), 2012: $1,536,750, 2013: Free Agent

Wouldn't we be on the hook regardless if he was on the team or not though? I thought I read last off season that we would be paying him nearly the same amount off the team, or on the team. And I recall many saying might as well give him a shot since we're already spending the cash on him.

Seems like that's changed now?
I recall wrong?

I looked this up last fall and if memory serves me correctly.. his roster bonus this year was part of the guarantee.. however his salary this season in not.. but I believe his roster bonus next season still is..

Hence.. we are on the hook for all but this seasons salary.. hence my point if he isn't going full out why risk this seasons salary if he becomes injured yet again..

I am almost willing to make an avatar bet that if Harrell is cut by the Packers, he will not be on the starting roster of any NFL team this year -- or next for that matter.

I think he's this year's Anthony Smith: the player a lot of fans are rooting for, the one they'll be outraged about if he's cut, and the one who will never once step foot on the field, even if he gets picked up by the worst team in football.

I wanna bet RP that he makes the Pro Bowl.. talk about a calculated non-aggressive wager. 😉

Does anybody know how much it will cost the Packers if Harrell is cut in training camp vs. ending up on IR? I'm thinking if they cut him they will have to pay some of that money for 2011 and 2012, so they may not gain anything money-wise. And we are only talking about half a million dollars here anyway, which is not big money by NFL standards. I think that is a factor in why they are letting Harrell stick around.

After reading what McGinn said again and giving it more thought, I think it's important to understand that he is talking about effort. He's calling out Harrell for being lazy. He's not calling him out for being a bad football player. I hate to compare the two, but Randy Moss is lazy. Great football player though. Just sayin'

Anyways, I think what McGinn is getting at is that for someone who hasn't played football the last few years, he sure doesn't seem to be playing like his butt is on the line. Where as someone like Mike Neal is, even though he's a lock to make the roster.

I don't think this is about production. It's about effort. I can't think of the word as I'm typing this. I guess people want to see Harrell give the effort that someone would give if their job depends on it. Perhaps, he's not giving that. Personally, I think he'll make this team if he's healthy, so we'll see.

"pack93z" wrote:

Exactly how I read and what I expect from Harrell... and why I would be quick with the trigger this camp in regards to Harrell.. struggle and maybe under perform.. but it better not be because of lack of effort and heart.

"porky88" wrote:

Do you hold all players to this criteria then? Because, Harrell isn't the only one dogging it at practice. No way and no how. He's a well known disappointment with injuries, so therefor he's an easy target, but he's not going to be the only player on this team to lack effort. He might be one of four or five, but he's not the only one. Honestly, they need someone to step up behind their big three right now and Harrell could be that guy. I don't think you cut a guy until the games start regardless of whether or not he's intense at practice.
