After reading what McGinn said again and giving it more thought, I think it's important to understand that he is talking about effort. He's calling out Harrell for being lazy. He's not calling him out for being a bad football player. I hate to compare the two, but Randy Moss is lazy. Great football player though. Just sayin'

Anyways, I think what McGinn is getting at is that for someone who hasn't played football the last few years, he sure doesn't seem to be playing like his butt is on the line. Where as someone like Mike Neal is, even though he's a lock to make the roster.

I don't think this is about production. It's about effort. I can't think of the word as I'm typing this. I guess people want to see Harrell give the effort that someone would give if their job depends on it. Perhaps, he's not giving that. Personally, I think he'll make this team if he's healthy, so we'll see.

Exactly how I read and what I expect from Harrell... and why I would be quick with the trigger this camp in regards to Harrell.. struggle and maybe under perform.. but it better not be because of lack of effort and heart.

So, your hooked on phonics fails you and right away Justin Harrell is garbage?

"Zero2Cool" wrote:

ok, you completely lost me on the hooked on phonics bait. not sure what the fuck your rambling about there.

maybe you need hooked on phonics, so here

Jus-tin Har-rell is gar-bage b/c his fat ass has done nothing but quit. I try to be opt-i-mis-tic before camp opens, but when you con-tin-u-ally read a guy is a quit-ter, and has no drive, and see pictures of har-rell look-ing dazed and con-fused in prac-tice, you simply real-ize this guy is just not going to make it.

I'm willing to wait to see the effort he puts out during games. In my opinion, the biggest cancer on a team is a guy like Cletius Hunt, who would take plays off during the game. Playing 10 on 11 because someone's not giving full effort is poison.

But isn't that just the point.. if he takes plays or practices off in camp.. can you really count on them in a game?

If I were in camp busting my ass and another guy is on cruise control.. you better believe it would piss me off and I would make sure his ass got it handed to him in drills, scrimmages and what not.. hell if I was on defense I might "kamikaze" his ass to prove a point.. lol.

exactly! you'd like to see the guy step up, you hope the guy would be driven after doing nothing year after year, but by the time the first pre-season game rolls around, and Justin has no sense of urgency to be on the field, you need to cut the cord.

especially when you have a player like mike neal that is driven and is playing hard

There's a difference between taking plays off and not being in playing shape. One's a factor of not putting out an effort, the other can be the same or could be a hold-over from being injured (and back injuries are not something I'd wish on anybody) and not having participated in a lot of contact over the last four years. Until shown otherwise during a game situation, I'm willing to give a player recovering from a back injury the benefit of the doubt until seeing how he performs in the preseason games.

90 degrees with 70% humidity in WI in Feb?
Then count Al Gore as agreeing with me that Justin will be in the Pro Bowl.

Al Gore and R.P. replacing Mark Murphy and Ted Thompson. Interesting.

Bring in Trom as Director Of Player Personnel.

IronMan as the Defensive Coordinator.

It all comes down to expectations.. I expected Harrell to be in shape, ready and out working the lot of depth on the defensive line.

Why?

Because a hungry driven player would be after struggling with injuries for a couple of years and now finally healthy. One that would want to beat out others for playing time.

IMO he has failed on those account per multiple sources.. lets how the light comes on and he gets himself into shape before injury or the season starts.
