After one week of practice it does not appear there will be many changes to the defensive roster.

I have 20 players that will likely make the squad:

CB - Harris, Woodson, Williams, Underwood.
S - Collins, Burnett, Bigby, Blackmon.
LB - Matthews, Hawk, Chillar, Barnett, Poppinga, Jones, Bishop.
DL - Jenkins, Pickett, Raji, Neal, Wynn.

On the bubble are Lee(PS), Bell, Shields(PS), Bush, Martin, Wilson(PS), Harrell, Obiozor(PS). PS denote practice squad eligibility.

3 or 4 of those listed as on the bubble will be cut, the others will make it. With some making the practice squad, I don't fell bad for any of those cut.

I'm thinking that the 53 man roster usually includes three special teamers and 25 each for the offense and defense, although it can vary from 24 to 26 depending on the talent. But assuming they will keep five of your bubble players, the most likely combo in terms of positions would be two more CB's and one each at safety, LB, and DL. Looking at your list, I'm coming up with Lee, Bush, Martin, Harrell if he stays healthy (otherwise Wilson), and...I guess that's it. So maybe they only keep 24 on defense and they keep an extra TE or something on offense. I've heard that the coaches are not as high on Obiozor this year as they were last year.

I hope Shields can stick at CB and be developed onto a quality return guy.

As much as I've dogged Harrell in the past, I have a strong feeling he makes the team and actually contributes. I like Bigby, but once again, just a feeling, I don't know if he'll be a Packer this entire season.

Like someone above said the norm is 25 O, 25 D and 3 STs

And I'd put Harris and Bigby on the PUP to start the season meaning they can't play the first 6 weeks but if gives two extra roster spots.

If Underwood is up there so should Lee. No reason to have them apart.

And I'm not sure why you have Wynn on the DL as likely to make the roster. Harrell is also ahead of him and sounds like he'll have to battle for the spot with Wilson and Talley to make it.

I'm going to have to go ahead and agree, there. I think that at the end of the 08 season, Bigby started making big hits. This is the obvious crowd pleaser. So he makes a few big hits, and everybody starts to think that he's ProBowl material. I'm not so sure if that is the case. I look at him and think that he tries to make a hit almost more than to make a play. He is the type of player that would run full steam with his shoulder down, but wouldn't wrap up to finish the tackle. I wouldn't be terribly surprised, with his injury, or devistated for that matter, if he did not stay a Packer for a long time. I don't dislike the guy, I just think he needs some development.

Lee and Shields make the team. Harrell will also make the team.

Good catch. I think Peprah should've been listed as a bubble player. I would say that it's very close between him and Derrick Martin, with Martin having the edge because of his special teams play. But Peprah could make the roster. He's done it before.

The Packers back-up Safeties have a problem staying healthy. Bigby, Blackmon, Martin and Peprah all have had problems staying healthy. I think all of them are coming back from some injury other than Peprah so he can show what he's got.
