Why couldn't we start AJ at LOLB and Bishop at ILB? What certain qualities defines each position? I know Chillar is experimenting at LOLB or ROLB but if worse came to worse couldn't AJ play outside, isnt that where he played in Ohio State?

OLB in a 3-4 is a very different position than OLB in a 4-3. In a 3-4 the OLB needs big-time pass rushing skills, which Hawk does not seem to have, at least not on an NFL level. He hasn't even had a lot of success as a blitzer, and that's when the offense is not expecting him to rush. He's a bulky, musclebound guy who does not have that slippery quality to get around blockers, yet he's not nearly big enough to beat OT's on strength alone.
As for Chillar, I thought they were trying him at OLB just because they didn't have anybody else out there besides Poppinga, who lacks pass rushing skills, and a bunch of very young guys who are longshots. Then I read this report from Thursday's practice:
