i hope brett stays retired this time, i think he may regret coming back this year.

Not me, I wanted to watch him get hit often this year by Peppers, Vandendbosh, and Clay. Everyone played the Vikings last year to stop Peterson, and let Favre sit back there and play catch. This year things were going to change. I don't believe Minnesotas O-line is as good as years past due to age and lack of drafting. The lost their utility backup as well.

I'm going to take a wait and see approach on this because the waffle king needs more time.

Just to play with the idea a bit - if for some reason this is the real deal (we all know it isn't, but what the hell) and he is calling it quits, I wonder if it will turn out that the factor was what N.O. did to him in that last game.

Every other team in the league saw that and took careful notes. He knows it, too. He also (now) knows that there are players out there who would love nothing more than to pound him into the turf (not because they don't like him - because he's the best ever, and that's the guy you want to be known for taking down). And then he looks at that line - McKinney will get him killed, and he knows it. Hutch is still good, but he's getting slower, quickly. The guy @ center is no Matt Birk. So forth. It's not a bad line by any stretch, but it's not the line it used to be. If he hadn't been the guy taking snaps last year, that line would have looked a lot worse - he got out of a lot of sacks on his own.

There are a lot of things I've given Brett credit for over the years, but intelligence isn't one of them - perhaps, though, he did the math and realized that at some point there'll be a bullet he can't dodge.

Nah... he's coming back.

The Saints game and taking notes holds no relevance to his decision. Maybe the pain, but I doubt it. He's been around long enough. No one scheme can stop him, if you think differently, I feel you're mistaken.

Rattle his cage, make him play from behind. That's been the goal of defenses for more than a decade. Not many have succeeded, the Saints did.

With that said, do we have a link to actual Brett Favre comments on this, or is it all speculation yet?

I would be gutted if he didn't come back. I actually found myself watching Vikes games with more interest last year solely because of Favre (even if I was willing the opposing team to knock him on his backside most of the time.)

On a brighter note, if he does retire this really leaves the Packers as the class of the NFC North (if not the whole NFC alonside New Orleans). The drop off from Favre to Tavaris Jackson or Safe Rosenfels is huge.

I'll believe it when I see it. I'll still take him back if he pulled what he did last year, despite the contract. Hell, I'll be willing to wait until the regular season kicks off to have him come back.

So far all I've seen are rumors, never a direct quote from Favre. So who knows what the deal is..

They could've drafted Jimmy Clausen in the late first or early second.

They were never interested in Clausen.. with or without Favre. They didn't invite him for workouts and I believe they never even attended any of his pro day stuff either.

Martha Careful (3h) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (4h) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (4h) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (6h) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (6h) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (6h) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (8h) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (10h) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (16h) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (17h) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (17h) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (17h) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (17h) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (17h) : Game not over yet
beast (18h) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (18h) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (18h) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (18h) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (19h) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (20h) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (20h) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (20h) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (20h) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (20h) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (20h) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (23h) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (23h) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (23h) : what's so funny?
Zero2Cool (23h) : BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Zero2Cool (23h) : Bears are finalizing a deal to hire Ben Johnson as their head coach. (via @tompelissero )
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : Looks like Lions OC Ben Johnson is going to be the Bears coach
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : TD but another failed 2 pt conversion!
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : Ravens still alive, but barely
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : Or not...BUT THAT CATCH BY NACUA
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : WE MAY HAVE BEEN PREMATURE KANATA
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Time to make dinner
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Ouch!!!! Dagger for the Eagles
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : DAGGER
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : pass plays
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Seems some of their passes are too deep. Reminds me of MLF as well.
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : Oren Burks with a clutch pass break up...I will now light myself on fire
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : a run on 2nd down and 17 from McVay? So that's where MLF gets it from!
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : Do or die time for the Rams
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Kicking field goals are impressive
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : Oh that might be a backbreaker
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : That's what I thought too, just wasn't sure
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Kicking doesn't make much sense
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : If the Rams score a TD on the upcoming drive, they go for 2, right?
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Stafford is pretty good with 4th quarter comebacks. I would like to see it.
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : YUGE stand by the Rams D there
