Of course that is the logical assumption to make, but it raises the question of why weren't the other texts or conversations (the context to which I'm assuming you are referring), which would have clarified the intent of the bald text, also released? Why release only those three words which by themselves mean nothing?

Think about it this way: What if there was no "This is it" quote? What if there was just a story that Favre had texted several teammates and told them that he intended to retire? The quote was not necessary to the story, but it was catchy, so they included it. It does not detract from the gist of the story.

As I've said, I think he's going to play anyway, but I believe he did send out some messages saying that he intended to retire. Although the sources were anonymous, it sounds like there were multiple sources, so I don't think this was a misinterpretation, nor do I think the story was invented. This is exactly the sort of thing that Favre has been doing for the past two years, so I am not giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Nonstop,
My wife was sure puzzled by your avatar. She thought "what a cute husk..." then she laughed and asked me if that was a penguin body with a dog's head.

+1 for you.

I know Rourke says it, doesn't follow through. I excited when he says it, then I notice no change. I feel like a kid where dad says 'heres a cupcake' ... you hold your hand out... waiting ... waiting ... 20 minutes later you still wait ... then you fall asleep and forget bout it. 🙂

He'll be back. The first two pre-season games are going to go by...Jackson will suck it up. Favre will be watching...he'll know he can do better. The Vikings will call Favre and beg and plead and he'll be back. It'll be like clock-work.

On the flip side...if Favre doesn't come back, it'll be Viking season. They don't stand a chance. Maybe they could bring back Brad Johnson.

I think if the Vikings have a QB who doesn't turn it over or make stupid throws, they'll be a force this year.

If Brett comes back, he stands a chance of going 0 - 2 against the Packers and finishing on a bad note either way.

Brett is 2 - 0 against the packers, had his best statistical season and was in the NFC Championship game within only three points of winning before overtime.

I think now would be a good time for him to retire, for himself.

I'd like to see him come back and the Packers beat the Vikings twice and Vikings finish at or below .500, that's just me though. You want to be the best, you have to beat the best. Right now, Vikings are the best in the division with Favre, that's what I want to face, that's what I want to beat.

Haha Cheesey.. That's BAD!

Like I told the emotional unstable Viking fans at work.. I'll believe Favre's done when it's week 8 in the NFL season and he's not wearing any pads / helmet.

Until Favre decides what he's gonna do.. I'm as jacked as ever about the Gophers' and Vikings' seasons.
