Iniesta, the biggest flopper on the field who flopped the red to Heitinga and a yellow to Van Der Wiel just had to score the winning goal. Kind of sums up football right there. Best floppers are best players.

This is hurtful, to say the least.

Yesterday was crazy. I've never seen it so silent. No one said a thing, it was just the sound of cars driving away from the city I live close to. Everyone was watching on a big square with a huge screen and from the moment that that goal was scored by Spain, everyone turned silent. People just silently passed me and a friend of mine while we where walking back home.

I hope that we'll never lose a SB in overtime like that.

I guess that there's always the EC in 2 years for the The Netherlands Vikings.

Two plays summed up this final match for me, one being Robben's refusal to go down on the breakaway, and the other being the aforementioned flop that led to a red because Iniesta's shoulder was touched.

Screw soccer.

sorry for you how this final ended up for you, rock. robben had 2 big ones, unfortunately he showed, that he's a rightwinger and not a forward.

yes, iniesta fell down easily at heitinga's second yellow, and yes, he could have sent off before with the revenge foul to van bommel.

but to be honest. the netherlands should have been reduced to 10 after half an hour.

if the kick of de jong isn't a well deserved red card, i don't know what you have to do to earn a red. van bommel was walking close to yellow/red the whole game, too.

That karate kick by De Jong should've been a red card. That was a horrible play.

After that, though, it was like Webb was trying to make up for his mistake. Yellow cards on every single tackle on a Spanish player. Yellow cards when Spanish players took a dive. A red card when a Spanish player took a dive.

On the other side, not one yellow card on any of the 20 tackles on Robben's ankles. (Although he's a little too fond of taking a dive, as well).

And yes, there was a pretty clear off-sides in that attack that the goal came from.

But really, it should've been over before we went to OT. Robben should've made that goal when he was one on one with Casillas. And take the fall after that 2nd break-out (which Webb ignored and which got Robben a yellow card for after complaining).

But let me say this, Spain looked like the better team throughout the biggest part of the game. I can't say that they didn't deserve to win.

Whatever happened to the notion of the refs "swallowing their whistles" at the end of a championship game and letting the players decided the outcome?

There are no bigger floppers than NBA players. It is one of the reason I don't care for the game very much. (It is laughable that a player who is 6' 8" tall and weighs 225-240 pounds can fly 5-8 feet backwards when the opponent who is 6-2 and 195 pounds nudges him with his hip.)

Watching the WC Final reminded me of the NBA.

beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
