I haven't seen a single mention of the WC over here.

The US is doing quite well. A win against Algeria, which seems quite likely, and you're off to the knock-out stage.

The Netherlands isn't looking too good right now, but at least we've advanced to the knock-out stage, as well, with one more group game to go.

Has anyone else been watching?

I hate to blame my lack of interest on those ridiculous horns, but I watched the first game and that noise was an absolute turnoff. I'm not fully up on all the rules and such of the game, so I like hearing the commentary so I at least have an idea of whats going on so it doesn't just look like a bunch of guys just running around, chasing a ball. I was so annoyed by that sound that I haven't watched a game since.

I watched the U.S. game against U.K., watching paint dry would be more exciting.
I listened to the 2nd game on ESPN radio and found that to be more interesting.
I doubt that I will watch any more games.
I found the horns to be extremely irritating as well.

The Brazil/Ivory Coast match was entertaining. There were a lots of shots on goal, and all the flopping was pretty funny. (Vlade Divac would be proud)

But most of the matches I have watched have been very boring. There was one team that didn't even have one shot on goal, the whole match. Watching a lot of these matches, its almost as if the teams are actually trying not to score.

I'm not bright enough to understand soccer.

But maybe its a game you just have to play to appreciate. I mean, I like playing chess, but I can't imagine watching re-runs of Fischer v. Spassky.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I mean, soccer games last what, 80-100 minutes? And the average score is like, what, 1-5 goals a game? And there's no physical contact allowed?

So I'm gonna sit down for 2-4 hours and watch 20ish grown men run around a field and kick a ball around? Count me out.

Hell I even played soccer for years as a kid and never got into it.

I prefer hockey to soccer if I have to watch one. Hockey is basically fast-paced soccer but with brutality thrown into the mix.

I normally don't like soccer a lot, but you gotta watch the world cup.

Italy will win. They're playing style is so ugly it's actually beautiful. 8 Defenders, Pirlo, Gattuso and a striker who is great at diving. Score 1-0 from the penalty and freeze the game. At least that's what they did in 2006. I don't know how the hell they didn't beat New Zealand now.

Lol. That was quite a dive by De Rossi. I wouldn't be surprised if he had German ancestors.

Age is hitting them hard, though. To play that style you need a strikers who knows how to score. Someone who finishes with the goal on most decent opportunities.

They used to have guys like that in Inzaghi and Del Piero, but they decided to leave both of them home, with them being 36 and 35 years old, respectively.
