Ditka backs Sayers vs. Urlacher

Mike Ditka joined the chorus of Chicago Bears Hall of Famers who have come to the support of Gale Sayers in his controversy with linebacker Brian Urlacher.

ESPN NFL analyst Mike Ditka says former Bears star Gale Sayers simply answered a question that he was asked honestly. The players on the Bears need to be worried about two things: Green Bay and Minnesota.

The war of words started May 4, when Sayers criticized quarterback Jay Cutler's performance in 2009, questioned the future of coach Lovie Smith if the Bears struggle again this season, and wondered how well Urlacher will come back from season-ending wrist surgery.

Urlacher responded in a Chicago Tribune article Thursday by ripping Sayers for criticizing the Bears and questioning Sayers' credentials because the Hall of Fame running back never won a championship, or even a playoff game.

I didn't quote the entire article, FYI.

I thought this was funny. Those silly teddy bears. 😃

Gale Sayers is right. But Urlacher's actions are also correct. Sayers just says it as he sees it and is quite objective. Urlacher defends his team and shows some leadership.

Now, I'm totally with Sayers on this one, but I can see how a player like Urlacher would have his team gets behind his coach after all they did this off-season.

I totally agree with Sayers and I don't see why people get mad at him, but I can imagine where Urlacher is coming from, even though I wouldn't have done it this way, myself.

Well, questioning the credentials of Gale Sayers is rather silly of Urlacher.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I like Sayers, I think he was a solid player. He shares the birth city of the greatest runner of all time too.

With that said, I don't think he deserves his spot in the Hall of Fame if Sterling Sharpe doesn't get one.

Take Gales best year and average it out for 16 games, its just over 1,400. Barry Sanders averaged 100 more than that over a TEN year career.

More to the Sharpe comment ... he netted almost 600 receptions and averaged more than 1,000 yards receiving over seven year career with 90 or more receptions in FOUR of those years.

My argument ... since Gale is in, Sterling should be in.
