Nice article. Someone let the cat out of the bag! This is what I've been saying ever since I decided NOT to do the college route.

I had to stop reading after a few paragraphs. The premise that this guy was somehow pooped out of an ivy league school as a finished product and couldn't continue his learning in the real world, even to simply hold a conversation with non-ivy leaguers bothered the shit out of me. Display some adaptability.

Agreed.. it speaks to the narrow minded isolated life this "silver spooner" led than a condemnation of the education causing his awkwardness in common everyday social interaction with other "walks" of life.

Color this thread as a case of Formo attempting to justify his decision to forgo college... 😉

even if you have a degree which isn't (or cannot be, logically) being utilized for a particular job, simply having that degree will usually place you above all those in a queue without a college degree applying for a job because it shows you are diligent, educated, and dedicated to the tasks you take on.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

It is his lofty attitude about himself and viewing others are beneath him that gives him this point of view.

education is simply that. Education. If anything it should further enable an educated one to communicate with an uneducated one. It is the snobbish attitude that SOME educated have that derails that ability.

Thinking he is better than someone else leads me to believe he did not learn the finer points of his education!

After all, look at how we all communicate with Vikesrule? Do we all feel better than him?

nevermind.

This is actually true. Employers see people as having a degree as someone who sees things to completion.

For example, smartest guy I know IQ-wise. Never finished his degree even though he's a year older than I am. In real life, never finishes anything either. He'll have some completely insanely brilliant idea and just leave it. He may have been the first person in the entire world to write a working steganography program and he failed to do anything with it.

The life expectation of a college degree is 18 months. What I mean by that is that if you do not show that you can apply it in your first job it does one no good at all when applying for the second, third and forth jobs in life.

My uncle had a grade eight education, was a successful business owner.

He said: "A Thermometer Has 120 degrees and where does the doctor stick that?

For those that didn't read the whole thing.. can't say much. It wasn't about how he couldn't relate to the 'common' folk at all.

Pack, I don't need any justification on why I choose to skip college. The great thing about that is.. I can choose my own 'courses' and learn just as much as any college educated person, and still have the common sense that most universities tend to thrive on. =)

According to his article, his mindset was one that was basically taught to him. Yes, it was his own idiocy that he didn't know how to communicate/relate to his plumber. That wasn't what the article was about, though. It was about how most those higher education Ivy league schools teach elitism at it's finest.
