I don't think the generation growing up now is being given a chance to succeed. All these studies come out all the time that says kids shouldn't do this or do that...mine is the last generation that kept score at teeball games, could eat Happy Meals guilt free (they're starting to outlaw Happy Meal toys in some places), had gravel underneath our swing sets at school (good Lord, scraping our knees and elbows taught us real quick how to do something right), was allowed to play tackle football at recess...the list goes on and on. All those things changed after we got into the "real world", so I always feel like it's someone's view that we're worthless, so they make all these new rules against things we did freely. And now those lists will become even longer with all the new technology constantly coming out.
Obviously video games and cell phones changed a lot of things. Attention spans are shorter because we're an instant gratification society. Kids are always among the first to be attracted to new technology. They want the newest things, just like every generation of kids did during their times. It just so happens that this generation has technology that we could have never dreamed of, and that has spoiled them.
