I think the fact that this draft was so "unsexy" is a sign of just how solid this team actually is. Ted Thompson didn't need to draft a Ndamukong Suh and a Jahvid Best in the first round to give the fanbase hope.

Bulaga

Damn right.

BB and Burnett are obvious. Neal will play ahead of Jolly on passing downs this year imo.

And my boy Newhouse has all the skills to be a solid LT in a couple of years, although with BB there I expect they'll throw him into the mix at LG.

The funny thing about 'starters' is it entirely depends on injuries. Who would have thought we'd be describing Brad Jones as a starter this time last year?

If Grant pulls his hamstring in game 1 James Starks could be carrying the rock the rest of the season.

I hope that they let Clifton play this year, let Bulaga start next year at LT while we groom Newhouse and switch Bulaga to RT and Newhouse at LT the season after that. Just think about that line if they all turn out the way they can.

Newhouse - Lang - Spitz - Sitton - Bulaga.

I really like that line for the near future. It would also be nice to have Cliffy and Tausch as solid backup in case of unjury until we ucover some more talented players.

There seems to be a fair amount of belief out there that Newhouse might actually be the LT of the future.

Which leads to me to ask the following: if we have two new players who might end up at either LG or LT (Bulaga, Newhouse), plus a question about durability in our current LT starter, plus a question as to who is going to be starting Week One at LG, why not give both Bulaga and Newhouse reps at both positions, at least early in TC, to see which of them is "most ready to go at LT" and which is "most ready to go at LG" right now?

Now if you're convinced that Bulaga's going to be the LT for a decade as soon as Clifton's gone, I understand the "only reps at LT" approach. But if you've got feelings that maybe, just maybe, Newhouse might be that left tackle, then doesn't it make sense to split the reps at least for part of TC.

Not to mention this adds a bit of extra competition: the coach can say, "which one of you two guys wants to be the LT more badly?"

Yes I know, I know, Clifton can be expected to go down at some time this year. But what if the best guy at LT isn't Bulaga but Newhouse? What if we think we're getting the next Clifton in Bulaga but we're getting the next Mike Wahle?
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

That could be a good problem to have, provided Newhouse beats Bulaga out at a high level of play. Bulaga could be moved by position or trade.

I have high hopes for Newhouse. He got some snaps at LT during the rookie minicamp so maybe that's what they are doing.

The coaches certainly don't seem to be sure where his best position is yet. I just hope they don't end up ruining him by moving him around too much. It can be argued that is what led to the under whelming play of Colledge, Moll and possibly Barbre.

If we cut/trade one of Colledge or Spitz, something I don't see happening, then that opens up a natural spot for Newhouse. Otherwise I can see him being a utility backup for the season.
