There seems to be a fair amount of belief out there that Newhouse might actually be the LT of the future.
Which leads to me to ask the following: if we have two new players who might end up at either LG or LT (Bulaga, Newhouse), plus a question about durability in our current LT starter, plus a question as to who is going to be starting Week One at LG, why not give both Bulaga and Newhouse reps at both positions, at least early in TC, to see which of them is "most ready to go at LT" and which is "most ready to go at LG" right now?
Now if you're convinced that Bulaga's going to be the LT for a decade as soon as Clifton's gone, I understand the "only reps at LT" approach. But if you've got feelings that maybe, just maybe, Newhouse might be that left tackle, then doesn't it make sense to split the reps at least for part of TC.
Not to mention this adds a bit of extra competition: the coach can say, "which one of you two guys wants to be the LT more badly?"
Yes I know, I know, Clifton can be expected to go down at some time this year. But what if the best guy at LT isn't Bulaga but Newhouse? What if we think we're getting the next Clifton in Bulaga but we're getting the next Mike Wahle?
