I heard that Bryan Bulaga once beat Bill Brasky  in an arm wresting match.

The Chiefs went with Eric Berry.

The Bills went with CJ Spiller.

The Steelers went with Maurkice Pouncey.

That pretty much opened the door for one OT to drop.

Next to that, Bulaga made leaps in mock drafts. And for what reason, really? Most people went on rumors that the Chiefs where interested in him, which propelled him upwards. Fact is, he's a good OT, but one that looks like he'll have a relatively low ceiling. You want a gamechanger in the first 20 picks of the draft. I don't think that Bulaga will ever do that.

This was a very fortuitous round one for the Packers.. best player and need aligned. If we weren't picking so deep in the second I might have opted for Hughes and taken a tackle such as Saffold in the second.. but I highly doubt he is there yet tonight for us.

Only regret.. it cost us Hughes.

32" arms and slow feet are the only things keeping me from jumping for joy. If he overcomes and ends up being a solid LT I'm thrilled with this pick. If he's forced to play RT or G then I would have gone a different direction as I think Lang can be groomed for RT and a 1st rounder for a G is pretty expensive.

Arm length is one of the most overrated aspects of playing left tackle.. guys with really long arms learn to cheat and over extend, thus losing leverage. And it is really a bad habit that is hard to break and is more exploited than shedding a short armed tackle.

At 33.25.. those arms are super short .. his footwook needs a little polishing.. really in his first kick step.. but it isn't awful either.

Brown and Saffold have slightly better feet.. but I think Bulaga is a better prospect than either.. just never expected him to be there at 23.

Again.. if we could have been sure that Saffold would have been there in the second.. I might have went Hughes then Saffold in the second.. but I don't think either slide to the Packers.

Yeah, I'm torn on whether to start Bulaga at LG, or just lets him sit behind Clifton for a year. I fully believe in putting our 5 best o-linemen on the field, because when you have a top 3 (Yeah, I said it!) QB, you must do everything you can to protect him. I really don't think putting Bulaga at LG will stunt his growth at LT.

LT: Clifton
LG: Bulaga
OC: Spitz
RG: Sitton
RT: Lang

I tihnk those will be our 5 best linemen next season, with it being close between Lang and Tauscher. Bulaga is also extremely likely to get some snaps at LT with Clifton's injury history.

I like the pick, considering what was there. Once we didn't trade up for Graham, I was fine not taking an OLB. I think Brad Jones showed a hell of a lot last year for being an undersized rookie. Word is he's putting on 15lbs of muscle this offseason. He will be fine.

Jahvid Best and Kyle Wilson were also possibilities, but I'm happy with Bulaga.

Well, Bryan Bulaga did indeed take a header down the first round, as many of us were hearing in the past 10 days or so. But the Iowa offensive tackle had a pretty soft landing in my book, falling into Green Bay's lap at No. 23. Other than the monetary hit that Bulaga took from falling out of the top 10 -- easy for me to say, right? -- going to the Packers could be a perfect career move.

Green Bay doesn't need help immediately from Bulaga and can let him work himself into the lineup at guard, eventually transitioning to tackle once either Mark Tauscher or Chad Clifton moves on.

It may not stunt his growth but it could certainly stunt his ability to move to LT and play well immediately should Clifton go down.
