Great fit. I was surprised he fell that far. But hey..no complaints.

Hopefully he can step it up over the next couple of years. I read he might be a bit heavy footed so maybe he can sit on the right side for a while and we can try to shore up the left until he's got some more practice under his belt. Either way it's a great pick for the value we're sure to get out of him.

Cool pick - I dont think anyone thought he would drop to the 23rd pick.

check what this site has to say about him
http://draftboardinsider.com/cgi-bin/prospect.cgi?id=761

lots of good things ...
great pass blocking, improving on run blocking and the nastiest player in the draft - just what we need for a Olineman and put fear into those D peeps.

If he lives up to everything that site says we could have the 'steal' of the draft. Well I know there still are some good peeps in the 2nd round to be had.

Interesting that he is coming from Kirk Ferentz program, who also happens to be a big supporter of Joe Philbin (Bedard went as far as to say Ferentz swears by Philbin on the O-line).

This is an interesting factor, aadP. The thing that has driven me crazy since about 2005 is the weakness of the OL as measured by
[ol]🇱🇮how many times the Packers run on 3rd-and-short or 4th-and-short[/li]🇱🇮vs. how many times they go to the quick slant to Driver or Jennings[/li][/ol]

Which to me means that the playcaller, Coach McCarthy, does not have total confidence in the OL for the run game when the chips are down.

But with an OT who is obviously from a coaching "family" -- Iowa, Ferentz -- which also has a position coach on the Packers -- Philbin -- it could lead to [ol]🇱🇮better coaching[/li]🇱🇮more confidence in the OL as a whole[/li][/ol]

Because this perennial quest for "gel" -- as in, "The OL will gel this off-season," -- is accomplished by coaching. Effective coaching.

Well, that is just a miseducated guess, but let's see how it works out.

Whew, I was hoping we got Bulaga and thankfully he fell to us! Another Hawkeye in the green and gold!

Man, your post brought up some feelings of loss and grief about Kampy moving down here to Florida. :crybaby:

But anyways ---- Wasn't Adam Timmerman from Iowa, too? He was a good OG.

Seems a great pick.

Why did he slide all the way to #23 when he was slated any where from 5 to 15 max.???

Maybe the illness put teams off and maybe his age.

Whatever...it's our gain and 22 teams loss.

I had 41 players on my "1st round big board" . In the left hand column, I had 20 that I wanted, in the right column, 21 that I did not.

Alualu was not on either list. Ryan Mathews would have made my list if I had updated it yesterday, but I had not done so.

Second.

Second on my "I want list"---

The list where I honestly felt that when you got to the bottom of it, I was having some troubles arguing for the guy over some of the guys left on the "Do not want" list.

That first round could not have gone any better for my desires. (Well, Dez could have been off the board so I wouldn't have had to perspire AT ALL, lol)

33.25

For those anal folk that keep asking (lol-Shawn)

I'm revising my w-l record prediction upward.

Wade---- This should please you greatly. It damn sure did me.

Edit- Just looked-- I did have Mathews 13th on the "Do not want" list--my bad

Bulaga was such a "given" to be gone that he was not "argue/discussion" worthy when everyone was talking about the various other "need" positions. All Packer fans should be thrilled, imo.

We appear to have got the Michael Oher of 2010, the top tier LT who falls into the 20s.

People are saying he has a low ceiling and is more a steady eddie rather than an elite prospect.

But one of the things I like about The Baluga Whale is he turned 21 just four weeks ago. He's still a kid yet is already being talked about as NFL ready. With some coaching up and mentoring from Clifton and Tauscher this guy has the potential to get much better.

brilliant pick, incredibly fortunate talent-fall, etc. everything worked out perfect for this pick! he might not start this year, but this is the kind of patient, strategic, team-building, forward-thinking stuff i love about TT!

and as everybody's been saying...now let's get some help in the secondary!!

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

That is what I wondered too. (Not that I care.) I can understand Okung going as the first OT but why did the 49ers basicly pass on him twice by taking OT Davis and OG Iupati? (I know once they drafted Davis they didn't need Bulaga too.)
The Redskins were even more interesting. They passed on both Bulaga and Okung and took OT Williams while KC went the other direction and took SS Berry for which I do not blame them.
