No doubt the results Morgan Spurlock experienced -- cirrhosis reminiscent of years of alcoholism -- after a mere month on the McDonalds-only diet is no doubt also illustrative of this phenomenon.

The point is that extreme amounts of sugar and fat can have dramatic effects in a short time. Imagine what damage years of excessive (though obviously lower) consumption can cause.

I personally think excessive sugar consumption is more dangerous than smoking.

Excessive sugar consumption causes Type 2 Diabetes. Folks generally don't live into triple digits with Type 2 Diabetes. (My apologies to anyone who has it. I'm just stating the odds).

Smoking can cause lung cancer (but only about 10% of lung cancer cases are attributable to smoking!) . . . if you live long enough. Marijuana smoking doesn't even cause that -- it's been shown to have a protective effect against lung cancer!

Sugar causes Type II diabetes . . . obesity . . . gout . . . atherosclerosis . . . fatty liver disease . . . heart disease . . . and any of a number of hormonal problems.

Now tell me which one is worse.
