I know a couple posts have similar themes but I thought I would ask.

How have we done in the early part of free agency this year?

Do we get an B because no one is really available and we have invested in our own talent?

Or do we get a D for not making many big moves?

Orrrr do we have an incomplete because we still might make a big move?

I might give us an A.

We've avoided overpaying for a weak free agent class.

We've re-signed the guys we HAD to re-sign like Clifton, we've kept the core of a superbowl contending team together and dumped a large chunk of Collins, Pickett's and Clifton's salary into the uncapped year.

AK got a dream deal from the Jags and paying him that to be a 3-4 LBer would have been a big mistake.

Jason LaCanfora seems to think we were one of the Free Agency winners:

Let's start with the winners:
Green Bay Packers

Like San Diego, this is never going to be a team equipped to be among the heaviest spenders with any regularity. And, like San Diego, this is a young and talented team that was among the most-feared coming down the stretch in 2009. So for them to retain both veteran offensive tackles -- Chad Clifton and Mark Tauscher -- and then get all-underrated nose tackle Ryan Pickett and safety Nick Collins signed to nice extensions was big.

In a free-agent class like this, keeping your own best players -- guys who know your system, coaches and locker room, and provide a great fit -- is the way to go. The Packers also knew when to let go with Aaron Kampman -- can't help but wonder if the Jaguars will regret giving him $11 million guaranteed given his health problems.

So much of this sport is cultivating talent, self-scouting and knowing who from within to give the money to, and who to let walk.

B-.

I love that we've kept out of the first storm of free agency again. Signing someone like Peppers is something a desperate franchise does. Especially at that price.

I am somewhat dissapointed that we haven't gone after anyone, though. Not even a report about the Packers showing interest in anyone. I would've loved to see us at least try to get Porter. We're a team that's as good as ready. Could be ready with two good draft picks and one FA signing.

I guess that we can't spent too much money, though. There's a pretty decent chance that we'll be running for a loss this year with all the frontloaded contracts. We can't go crazy in FA, since it's still a business, as well.

I would give the off-season a solid B.

I like all the deals, but I'd like to see Green Bay sign a veteran safety to compete with Atari Bigby. Someone smart and instinctive. Someone like Tyrone Carter.

A

I was going to give an A- with the caveat that we havn't even brought in a Brandon Chillar type of signing, but looking over our roster we're going to have some real tough decisions to make as it is. Any low risk free agent we bring in has a good chance of being shown the door five months from now. So I'm content with keeping this team together, adding a few draft picks, and hopefully making a trade or two before the season starts.

Teddy's a "C" student when it comes to free agency. Does just enough to get by. And that's all he's done this year. Stays with what he knows and does not take any major risks.

Teddy is an "A" student when it comes to the draft.

If you expect anything more than a "C" performance from Ted Thompson in free agency you have been watching the past few years.

He takes low price long shot gambles for anyone not currently in the organization. It's a crap shoot. You get a Chillar or Manual.

IMO still too early. The time to start grumping seriously about free agency is after draft day.

I will only say, I didn't expect anything else.

I dont understand why people think Tyrone Carter is any good. I watch pretty much all of the Steelers games and I remember more bad plays than good plays when it comes to Carter. Too many times I saw him getting burnt or juked out, allowing a big play.

I give them a B

ya sure they signed our guys for a huge amount of dough - ya guess thats good.

But everyone knows that our LOLB position is weak - why else would matthews get dbl teamed in the playoff game; cuz arizona knew that brad wasnt that good compared to matthews.

We need a solid LOLB and no reason why we couldnt of looked at porter.

Still glad we signed up collins and pickett thou ...
