Vic, do you have a sense for how the offensive line is doing? Is the right to left switch going smoothly? Is there any real competition for Evan Dietrich-Smith? Do you have a front-runner for right tackle?

Bryan Bulaga is playing the best left tackle I’ve seen in the three Packers training camps I’ve covered. He’s been dominant so far in this camp. I see nothing about the flip-flop that isn’t positive.

The center job belongs to Dietrich-Smith. The issue at center is the backup job. Don Barclay has struggled with the snaps. I like what I see in Greg Van Roten.

The right tackle job is Marshall Newhouse’s to hold, but Barclay and David Bakhtiari are strong competitors for that spot.

nice update on the o-line . It's hard to tell from all the positives being said about whether or not the Lne as a whole will be better than last year with the switch. it certainly sounds good though both for starters and backup depth.

I don't follow Vic enough to know... does he say anything bad about the Packers? ... isn't he paid by the Packers to cover the Packers? Just wondering...

But one interesting thing I've read is the Mike McCarthy ran more to the left last year, even with better run blockers on the right. An article explained that because it's because Mike McCarthy was trying to set up play action to the right (throwing side) for Rodgers, by play action to the left. And to get play action to the left, you need have real runs to the left first.

So to me, it only makes sense to switch put Bulaga and Sitton on the left, if that's where you going to run most often. Also Bulaga has been said to be the Packers best pass blocker.

This is really good to hear!!

Looks like I may be proven wrong on Bulaga! And I'm glad!!!!

I wasn't concerned about whether or not Bulaga on Sitton could make the move to the left side. But it is still good to know that it has moved beyond the theoretical to actually being true.

With all the focus on the changes the Green Bay Packers made on the offensive line this offseason, when coach Mike McCarthy flip-flopped the right and left sides, it is easy to forget there’s still an open competition for one position -- right tackle.

It’s the spot formerly held by Bryan Bulaga, who along with former right guard Josh Sitton moved to the left side. Marshall Newhouse, who started the past two seasons at left tackle but was wildly inconsistent, is now at right tackle and lined up next to right guard T.J. Lang, who played left guard the past two seasons.

Got all that?

Before you put everything in ink, Newhouse still has to win the right tackle spot. While Bulaga, Sitton, Lang, and even center Evan Dietrich-Smith are entrenched at their (new) spots, Newhouse still has much to prove. After allowing 10 sacks last year in the regular season, according to STATS, plus two more in the playoffs, Newhouse ran his sacks allowed total to 24½ for 2011 and 2012 combined.

dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.

beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
