Sandman, personally I'm much more intrigued by you hearing that Collins and the Packers are working towards a deal that'll pay him good.... he deserves to get paid! Good news, to say the least.

As for Charles... I can understand if he were upset with his contract. From the sounds of players, Charles has been an unquestioned leader for the youngsters on this team.

Collins and Bigby have both talked mentioned the influence Charles' work-ethic has had on them. I believe a couple of years back Collins credit Charles with 'taking him under his wing' so to speak to become better at preparing for games off-field to have more success on it.

Last year, even Brad Jones said that when he was inserted into OLB to replace Kampman, it was Charles who let him know that he (C-Wood) had faith in him (Jones) to deliver and keep the defense rolling.

If Charles is unhappy, I don't worry too much becuase I'm certain the Packers will take care of him. For what it is worth, I don't think Charles needs to be given a new contract to satisfy him.

For the past three years, Driver's current contract has been re-worked so that he could get money without adding on extra years. I don't see why this couldn't be the case with Charles, either; dude has been stellar.

Excellent point about Collins contract, but again, that was said around the time of him signing his RFA tender.

He was asked how he turned in such a good season two years ago. He flat out said it's thanks to Charles and how he's show him how to review film.

I don't think Collins contract has much to do with Woodson wanting his redone. I think I've said that about four times though, lol.

I'll echo your sentiments.

No doubt Charles is happy to see one of his friends, and fellow peers get paid. Collins certainly has earned a big pay day based on his high level of play.

That said, you could easily argue that Charles deserves a pay-raise. Dude has been stellar on the field, but more than that you can (also) easily make the argument that he has been a great veteran presence that our younger DBs needed, to help show them the ropes and the work required to be outstanding on Sundays.

I doubt this has gone unnoticed by top brass at 1265...

Do you think Chuck thinks of himself as being in his "latter years" right now? He's the reigning Defensive Player of The Year. He probably thinks he has plenty of outstanding football left in him, whether he really does or not.

I'm not sure Collins has much to do with it or not. Who cares. He probably DOES think he's due for a raise, or at least a nice fat bonus, though.

I know for a fact he does. How? He's said it himself that he doesn't have many more years to obtain that elusive championship ring and doesn't want any opportunity missed.

Yes, he does feel he has several years of outstanding play left him in.

I'm just commenting on your analogy of "latter years" vs "entering their prime". Just saying that I think your analogy is off, because Woodson is not likely to think of himself as being on the downswing right now, when he was the best defender in the NFL this season. Charles is in his prime right now.

Like I said, I don't know if Collins pay would get under his skin or not. No one really does except him, his agent, and anyone he might talk about it to.

Looks like Collins has signed his extension:

@TomSilverstein: Packers S Nick Collins signing 3-year,$23.4M extension, sources said. $14M in first year.

Like many veterans, i think Chuck's main gripe in this situation is that he's overplayed his contract, and he's pasted the point where he has really any garuntee's left. Meaning the team can pretty much dump him without a hit if they feel he's declining now. Is it a reasonable gripe? I dont know, but i wouldn't mind seeing the packers restructuring the contract of one of the best players in the league to keep him around for sure.

Woodson just donated $2 million last season. I really don't think he's that greedy.

If we got to pay to keep him, fine. In a couple seasons he even can slide to safety if needed. Just make his contract incentive-based.

the last 2 posts I full agree with..

If he out played his contract, is it the Packers fault?

And he did donate last year..but I dont think it has to do with the actual money in his account but the thought that hey..They think more of nick then me, why else did he get more money
