Child support trial set in Palin, Johnston case
February 25, 2010 - 3:26pm
By MARY PEMBERTON
Associated Press Writer

PALMER, Alaska (AP) - A judge in Alaska has set a date for the child support trial of Bristol Palin and the father of her son but urged the two to work out a resolution before then.

Bristol Palin attended the 20-minute hearing Thursday at Palmer Superior Court but Levi Johnston did not appear or participate by phone.

The judge told Johnston's lawyer it would have been better if Palin's former fiance had participated.

The 19-year-old daughter of Sarah Palin is seeking nearly $1,700 a month in child support from Johnson, who is a current Playgirl model. Palin's lawyer is seeking to subpoena Playgirl and media outlets to find out how much Johnston made last year.

The judge set a trial date for Sept. 23 and told Johnston's lawyer to get his client's financial information to the court. He says it was past due.

There is a huge difference between 17,000 and 1,700... misread maybe? 😉

I would correct that topic title if I were you... Massive difference. $17,000 is ridiculous, $1,700 is quite a bit more reasonable. Kids be expensive. Also, I really don't get why this is news or what kind of discussion/debate this is supposed to bring up.

I think I know why it was brought up.......but I'll keep that opinion to myself.

I actually think asking for $1700 a month for one child, particularly when you're a teenage parent who (if I'm not mistaken) still lives at home, borders on ridiculous. I gross significantly less than that per month and I'm raising two children quite satisfactorily. Kids aren't nearly as expensive as we are lead to believe. It's all a matter of what lifestyle you choose to lead.

And Alan, this story was brought up because it's news and therefore something to talk about. It has nothing to do with whatever ostensible side of the aisle the girl's parents are on. Though there certainly is a bit of irony to a situation in which the daughter of prominent chastity advocates can't get the father of her out-of-wedlock child to show up for a child support hearing.

Again, your topic title says 17 thousand, not 1700. Can you please fix that?

Also, it is quite above average but not ridiculous. I believe in karma personally, and while both sides certainly have their dumb (also, let's leave her mother out of it. She didn't put her penis in Bristol's vagina), Levi's certainly gone all-out dick since then. Also, income should factor into it as well. If you get knocked up and left by someone that makes a million a year, should they pay you 300/month in child support? Sure, it'll feed and clothe the child, but you have to worry about college as well and they sure as hell can afford it.

Summary: $1700 is too much, however I have no idea how much Levi makes to tell if this is reasonable or not.

In Wisconsin parents that are ordered to pay support have to pay according to a %..

1 kid is like 17%
2 is 25%
3 is 29%
4 is 31%

So if a parent is making 15000 a year or 100 million a year it is all consistent..

But I do agree that 21% of 100 million is crazy, its is the law

$1700 is too much. The guy's not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Let's be real. He posed for Playgirl. He probably has little other talent. There's a very short window being a nude male model unless he wants to get into gay porn. (For the record, the majority of Playgirl subscribers are MALE, not female).

But I like the reason Non brought this up. People who advocate chastity are usually the biggest hypocrites. This is from experience. Back when I was single, if I really wanted to get laid, the ones who shouted chastity the loudest were usually the easiest to get in bed. Oh, did I just say that?

EDIT - OK, I just read Long's piece. A % is fair. That said, she better plan for that % to drop significantly when his 15 minutes of fame is over.

Why is that... some cougar will be dieing to make him the flavor of the year... and he will ride that out for a couple more years... obviously he doesn't have a real strong moral compass.. lol.

let's leave her mother out of it.

I brought her mother up only because Cheesey's implication was quite clear. I obviously couldn't care less if teenagers have sex. The vast majority of children throughout history have been born to teenage mothers.
