I have an irrational woody for McFadden, though he certainly hasn't shown much with the Raiders - it'd be sweet if he could be obtained on the cheap.

I love reading this rumor stuff...It makes for an interesting offseason. Please do keep posting things like this.

This got me excited:

I heard that the Packers have requested everything on Boise ST. corner back Kyle Wilson, USC safety Taylor Mays, Clemson tailback C.J. Spiller, Marylands Bruce Campbell, Cals Jahvid Best, Dexter McCluster of Ole Miss and Rodger Staffold of Indiana.

And this:

I have heard that the Packers have talked to Oakland multiple times about Nnamdi Asomugha, Darren McFadden and Thomas Howard. There is no word on the price tag, but we can only assume that for Asomugha it is going to be steep. This may be Ted Thompson doing his due diligence, but the two teams also spoke last year when Oakland was willing to listen to offers.

^^Only thing about that trade would be the price. I don't want to give up anyone that is a huge contributer.

I also like the idea of getting Antrel Rolle. That would solve our safety problem and we could work on other positions during the draft. Kyle Wilson is a player that I would LOVE to have at the end of the 1st round if he is still there...

Man, there are so many good players in this draft! I CAN'T WAIT!!

O.T.S. Weekend F.A. Edition & Announcement

leave a comment

With free agency started and the Packers re-signing Chad Clifton, I figured Id do a quick O.T.S. Weekend Edition.

First, let me make an announcement. I finally built it (even though I have no clue what I am doing). Joes Locker Room is proud to announce that I have the web-site up. Joes Locker Room.com up and running and it will be the official home of Ran-DUMB-Thoughts, the O.T.S. and many other features I am unable to do here. I will continue to post things here until after the NFL draft, then it will be 110% over on the website.

We have also secured Joe Pacheco from the blog Joes Clubhouse to come aboard as a moderator and contribute his insightful and intelligent thoughts on the world of sports. Joe is an avid sports fan and brings a lot to the table.

So feel free to click on the Joes Locker Room name and come on over. In the Locker Room we have fan forums to discuss anything in the world of sports (and yes there is a specific thread just for the Packers and O.T.S.). We also will be adding the much talked about Pod-Cast and possibly Video-Cast in the very near future as well.

Thank you all for the support and I hope to see you on the website.

Now to the O.T.S. (3-6-10)

RUMOR:

n.

A piece of unverified information of uncertain origin usually spread by word of mouth.
Unverified information received from another; hearsay.

Word is spreading that the Packers have an interest in Ravens defensive end Dwan Edwards. He fits Ted Thompsons type of player, underrated, hard working and tenacious. He would also come at a reasonable price.

Other than the Edwards rumor, all is quite inside 1265. Although I did hear the Packers may be a mystery team when it comes to Ryan Clark. But, I also heard his asking price is more than what Thompson wants to pay.

With Chad Clifton re-singed and Mark Taucsher very likely to also be re-signed, I hear the Packers will work on taking care of Nick Collins.

I heard a rumor that Clifton never wanted to leave Green Bay and that even when the Redskins made him an offer, he told his agent that his heart is in Green Bay and he doesnt want to play any where else. The deal Clifton signed may be 3 years in length, but I also heard it is more like a 1 year deal (unless he stays healthy).

When Donovan Warren ran a slow 40 time at the combine last week, many thought his stock may slip or the Packers would be turned off, but the latter isnt the case. The Packers really are more intrigued with his 3 cone drill technique and view Warren as a safety and not a corner back.

I also heard the Packers requested everything on Perrish Cox, Tommy Hughes and Jason Fox.

Two offensive tackles that the Packers are looking hard at are Ciron Black (LSU) and Rodger Saffold (Indiana). Some think that the Packers would use Saffold as a left guard and Black as a right tackle, moving T.J. Lang to the left side in a year or two.

I heard from a source that he thinks 11-13 corner backs will be taken in the first three rounds of the draft.

I also heard the Packers spoke to Ricky Sapp, Jason Fox, Major Wright, Colin Peek, Kevin Thomas, Chad Jones, Jamar Chaney and Kam Chancellor at the combine.

More fodder...

Sunday, March 14th 2010 On The Sidelines

Here are some rumors that I have heard about.

RUMOR
n.

A piece of unverified information of uncertain origin usually spread by word of mouth.
Unverified information received from another; hearsay.

I close friend asked me check on a rumor that had the Packers and Browns making a deal. I got two separate rumors involving the two teams so here they are.

Rumor #1 had the Packers trading A.J. Hawk, their first round pick (#23), 3 round pick, a 2011 pick (round 2) and another player to the Browns for their 1st round pick (#7) overall should Eric Berry be available. I am not sure how that balances out on the "trade chart" but the rumor was floated out there.

Rumor #2 is the Browns wanting to deal back into round 1 for Colt McCoy. Apparently Mike Holmgren really like him and thinks he could be a very good NFL signal caller if he is brought along slowly (like Aaron Rodgers was). With the recent signing of Jake Delhomme this scenario becomes very possible. The Packers feel (so I have hard) that they can get a starting quality left tackle in rounds 2 through 4. I have heard the deal between the two teams (should it happen) would look something like this:

Green Bay would send Brady Poppinga OLB and pick 23 to the Browns for pick 38 and pick 71 and as a part of the trade the Packers will take Matt Roth OLB , who is a RFA tendered by Browns. The Packers would sign Matt Roth and it not cost the Packers a draft selection.

The Packers lose out on getting a "primary" OT prospect in round 1, but do come away with an extra selection (pick 71) and Matt Roth OLB who is more of a 3-4 OLB than Poppinga. It would also give the Packers time to develop Brad Jones whom they (and other NFL scouts) feel could be the steal of the 2009 draft.

A picture of former USC safety Taylor Mays was posted on twitter wearing a Green Bay Packers beanie. Could there be a connection? Maybe, but if you look at the jersey in the background (in the mirror) you will see it is at his best friend's (and current Packers OLB) house, Clay Matthews III. But I wouldn't be surprised one bit if Mays is the Packers top choice in the 2010 draft. I have heard (for quite some time) that the Packers scouts and coaches really like Mays and think they can utilize his strengths in their defense. They see a hard working, football junkie that is very coachable that has the desire to be the best football player he can be. Mays also has commented that he would love to be a Packers because of the Packers tradition and outstanding Packers fans.

As far as free agent news, there is none coming out of 1265. I hear the Packers focus has been to lock-up their own guys and if a player that fits what they are looking for is available, then take a look at them.

The Packers re-signed Mark Tauscher to a 2 year deal Saturday night or Sunday morning (thanks to Jason Wilde of ESPN Milwaukee for breaking the story).

Another player to watch in the mid-to-late rounds is Ole Miss quarterback Jevan Snead. He has all the tools you would want your QB to have, but had a poor year. That mixed in with high expectations and a surprise entry into the draft equals slipping in the draft. I hear that Mike McCarthy and Tom Clements really think he can be a good QB down the road.

The player I keep hearing linked to the Packers (like Tim Tebow to the Patriots) is Dexter McCluster. I hear the more the coaches watch his tape, the more they fall in love with him. You take that with his attitude, abilities and infectious personality, you have a player a team will take a chance on (despite his small stature).

I also hear that they really like Indiana University (PA) corner back Akwasi Owusu-Ansah. He ran (again) at the Ohio St. pro day and ran a 4.30 and a 4.34 (it is to note that Ohio St.'s track is known as a fast track). He has all the tool the look for in a a corner and has moved up from a 5th round prospect to a player that could be taken in the 4th or even late in the 3rd.

St. Louis Rams have notified a few teams their interest to cut ties with Adam Carriker (former round 1 pick). The Redskins and the Packers as showing some interest. At 6-6 302 he could move outside in the 3-4 and play DE. Why the whispered interest from Green Bay? I heard that the Rams are asking for a 4th round selection for him (remember he is only 26 years old).

A major rumor has started that has Michigan CB/S Donovan Warren having to have ankle surgery. Something was wrong at his pro day when he managed a 4.55 forty. He did not look right according to scouts. He has previous times of 4.42 but his 3 cone drill times were off as well.

Some whispers are starting to surface that the Packers want to add a WR to take over for Donald Driver as soon as 2011. I heard that they know Driver can't play forever and they will need to find a replacement for him to start opposite of Greg Jennings. I heard they feel James Jones and Jordy Nelson are nice complimentary players, but want to add a faster player opposite of Jennings.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and feel free to tell a friend about the site. Also, don't forget to sign-up for the forums (if you haven't already).

Nice that you pulled that little bit out. I totally missed it.

I couldn't agree more, though. I'd like a speedster on our offense. I think that Jones has everything to become a good starter (if he stays healthy), but a guy like McCluster would be an amazing addition to our offense.

Of course, I'm still in love with Golden Tate. He has some serious talent. We'd need to spent a 1st on a WR to get him, though.

Or that kid from The Citadel (what a name), Andre Roberts. I think that Walterfootball has a very good write-up on him.

Player Comparison: Derrick Mason. I don't expect Roberts to be a superstar, but like Mason, I expect him to be very productive and consistent in the NFL. I also see a lot of Greg Jennings in Roberts, but I'll be conservative with this comparison.

A second Greg Jennings would be pretty great, but looking at the more realistic outcome, a comparison to Derrick Mason is an amazing outlook for someone who figures to be a 3rd rounder and for a 2nd receiver opposite of Jennings.

Ahh, so this explains why Joe recently signed up on our little website here. Moved to Packers Talk.
Fan Shout
Zero2Cool (17h) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (21h) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (21h) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (22h) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (22h) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (22h) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (22h) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (22h) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (22h) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (22h) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (22h) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (22h) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (23h) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (23h) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (23h) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (23h) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move
dfosterf (15-Apr) : My wife just told the ancient Japanese sushi dude not enough rice under his fish
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I think a dozen is what I need
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
Zero2Cool (12-Apr) : I'm guessing since the thumb was broken, he wasn't feeling it.
dfosterf (10-Apr) : Looking for guidance. Not feeling the thumb.
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : If they knew about it or not
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : Did they know that at the time or was that something the realized afterwards?
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Van Ness played most of season with broken thumb
wpr (9-Apr) : yay
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Mark Murphy says Steelers likely to protect Packers game. Meaning, no Ireland
Zero2Cool (8-Apr) : Struggling to figure out what text editor options are needed and which are 'nice to have'
Mucky Tundra (8-Apr) : *CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP*
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : WR who said he'd break Xavier Worthy 40 time...and ran slower than you
Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Who?
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Texas’ WR Isaiah Bond is scheduled to visit the Bills, Browns, Chiefs, Falcons, Packers and Titans starting next week.
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Spotting ball isn't changing, only measuring distance is, Which wasn't the issue.
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : The spotting of the ball IS the issue. Not the chain gang.
Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Will there be a tracker on the ball or something?
