I know exactly how that goes! I've given and received plenty of shots in my day, especially since I have no fear of needles so I'm often used as an instructional device, leaving my arms looking like a heroin addict's. It is interesting to me how even finger sticks for sugar tests can get excruciating after a while.
Incidentally, in that one video I posted recently in the Obesity thread ("Sugar: The Bitter Truth"), the endocrinologist giving the lecture states that Type II diabetes can be eradicated in about one week following what he terms a Paleolithic diet. It would be difficult to eat a truly Paleolithic diet nowadays (raw grains, vegetables, fruits, etc. -- nothing processed), but it is not very difficult to follow his main recommendation of eliminating all sources of fructose from your diet other than raw fruits. Fructose is a toxin that can only be processed by the liver, and it is converted primarily to fat, leading to obesity, the primary cause of Type II diabetes. Overcoming obesity almost always eliminates Type II diabetes. You're insulin dependent, which means you obviously have an advanced case, but I do know of people who have been able to get off insulin after losing weight, even if some of them still had to take metformin.
Still, I can say that in my household, we have essentially eliminated all sources of fructose except raw fruits from our diets and consequently I feel much healthier overall (I am fructose intolerant), and my wife is losing weight, which is encouraging.
I encourage you to watch the video. Even if you don't agree with anything the guy says, it is still a fascinating presentation, or at least a good way to kill 90 spare minutes. :)
