What is the best option. I have heard two ideas that I really like that I'd share with you guys. Anyone have any others? I don't like the College one because its kind of gimmicky and people end up with crazy stats.

1) The team that gets the ball first, automatically starts on their own 10 yard line. That way if you are a really good defense, you could choose to kick it force a 3 and out and get really good field position. And you really need ot think twice about receiving first as you have ot get a first down.

2) First team to 6 points. This one intrigues me the most. I think it would be awesome. Imagine the coaching dilemmas. If you get the ball and its like 4th and 5 on the other teams 20. Do you kick the FG or go for the kill?

The way it is now is lame. I get that teams that get the ball first are 7-6 in the playoffs, so its close to a 50% wining % but that does not take into account specific teams and circumstances. In that 7-6, the 6 that lost GOT to touch the ball, thats the whole argument. So if they lost, thats life, they had a shot (like us the last two times we were in the playoffs, actually Seahawks/Packers too, we were involved in 3 of those 6 losses, lol).

But the point is that out of those 7 wins, I bet 5 were ones where hte other team didn't even TOUCH the ball, which is kind of nuts for everything to come down to a COIN TOSS. There has to be a better way?

I'm picturing a ref placing the football on the 10 yard line.

Nope. Can't go with that. I'm feeling "scrimmagy".

I have heard 10 minute overtime.

I think I like 15 minutes. I'm not married to it, though.

(Not gonna get into it--the BF/media thing--other thread-but your point was quite valid, imo)

You mean you play it out 10 or 15 and who is up at the end is the winner? I think taht works too. Plus give them 2 timeouts and challenges. And it basically becomes a 4th quarter.

I think we can rule out option 1 right away. There is no reason to eliminate an entire facet of a team's game, i.e. special teams.

I'm fine with the way it is. If you want the ball, stop the other team. The statistics are not lopsided enough to warrant a change.

I typically am in that camp. But we have to remember this is a league that favors offenses. So, seriously, how could it be fair?

I'll have to do some digging, but I thought this years stats were pretty lopsided.. I thought it was 5 times out of 6 that the coin toss winners ended up winning the game.
